*Official* NP Cricket Simulator: Updated Version (16-04-2020)

I've only just discovered this simulator, and I must say it looks absolutely fantastic!

One thing I must ask though, and Im sorry if it has been asked before in one of the previous eighteen pages, but why "Beach Cricket"? I had heard of this game and seen this thread many times, but I simply ignored it because I thought it was an arcarde-style game involving playing cricket on the beach. This suggests to me that the name is a poor one. Even "Beach Cricket Simulator" would have been better, really.

'Cause every other game I've written has been called BC200x, and I'm a little low on creative brain fund at present. I see your point, though.

There's also a smallish problem with the editor. "Blank" players dont have a 0 value entered in for variation, and its TabIndex seems to wrong as it comes after the Search command button instead of where it should. I assume this attribute was added in late, but it hasnt been completely integrated with the rest of the editor and its functions.

Yes, they affect bounce and the nature of shot selection front foot/back foot wise.

And you're 100% correct on Variation!

Good lord Neil, if you're making it this good, you're leaving no room for the regular users to crack it and win on it everytime :p

Heya Neil, how's this game goin? Some of my mates were terribly disappointed with Cricket Coach, and they saw me writing my HeadHunters series on BC 2006. Now they love it, and I'm back into it too, so I'm gonna do some testing to determine players strengths/weaknesses.

Hahahahaha, just played a game that reminded me why I love Beach Cricket :p
They were 5/37 chasing 199... then 7/151... Read the scorecard, especially the first over, which is a absolute classic!

It kind-of fell down my to-do list behind a couple of other bits of coding, and my random novels. But the novels are now done, and the other bits of code almost so.

I know the following need things fixing: good bowlers not effective enough (too predictable I think), too easy to charge and chase down big totals in super-quick time, stand-in keepers are appallingly bad.

In a nutshell, I have those exact same problems.

Following several hours' work today, I'm now very very happy with the current state of the game. I've added basic AI for both bowling and batting, increased the user's power over human teams' batting approach, massively lessened the Johannesburg effect, improved stand-in keepers and substantially tweaked the match engine to favour good bowlers (i.e. ones who can move the ball) far more.

Attached is also an updated database with 21-man England and Australia squads, and an upgraded stats tracker which provides "top fifty" lists. I'm very content with my day's work.

Feedback please!

Bit biased towards England, I must say:p, five matches I played, all five england massacred australia. But apart from that, pretty damn good.

Hmm, I'm just trialing it now. Looks much better, what with bowling changes and all.
PS hmm, I wonder who these other players are... 'Neil Pickup'... 'Sean Bennet'... lol

Just did some basic testing. Only played three games so its probably not a in depth look into the game. But in two of the games the team that batted 2nd won quite easierly. The first game England chased 237 and got it inside the 42nd over. In the 2nd game Australia chased 241 inside 34 overs. In the third game Australia was cruising at 7 an over chasing 292, but slowed down the run rate to keep wickets in hand and Australia lost. Also i had Mike Hussey keeping for Australia to try the stand in keeper and he let through 29 byes, not as bad as what i saw in Cricket Web Grade Cricket. But Australia lost by 22 runs, so it probably made a pretty significant influence.

Backup keeper test:

Game 1: Hussey 29 byes
Game 2: Hussey 25 byes, Trescothick 36 byes
Game 3: Hussey 42 byes, Trescothick 21 byes
Game 4: Hussey 59 byes, Trescothick 17 byes
Game 5: Hussey 37 byes, Trescothick 19 byes

Better then 90 byes in a game, but look like there still needs some work done.

The bowler changes have worked quite well with Flintoff, Warne and McGarth being basically unplayable. I have found the rest of the bowlers have struggled though, but it seems to be better then before.

They beat Aussie 3-2 in a five match series I just tried out (all at Edgbaston).
Good stuff. Must have just been last night. Graeme Smith kept getting caught at slip in the first over for bugger all.

For reference, those grounds aren't particularly realistic. Edgbaston and the County Ground in Exeter are, but Lahore is completely flat (you have to get wickets with the new ball or else you're staring at 350+) and Mumbai is a bunsen.
