Today the Sri Lankan Cricket Board announced that Rookie manager Brendon Goff would be taking over the reigns of the struggling sub-continent nation for the Tour of England...
Sri Lanka have been searching for a manager since the retirement of Dave Whatmore and they have decided to stick with the aussie feel by handing the job to Brendon Goff...

Goff told reporters today that he was looking forward to the challenge and felt that Sri Lanka had the talent to be the best in the World within the next 2-3 seasons...

Plenty of bowling depth as i feel that is where i will need it...
Batting will rely alot on the big 4 but i think there are a few players who i feel are ready to make the big step up...

Sri Lanka win the toss and elect to bat on what looks a brilliant wicket...

A good start for the boys with the openers putting on a 91 run stand before Jayawardene fell for a well made 50, Attapattu fell in the last over before lunch for 9, Jayasuriya made 56, but it was then when the show really got going, Aravinda and Tillakaratne scoring freely.. De Silva making 70 and with Vandort falling for 19, Sri Lanka were 5/292...
Tillakaratne and Samaraweera piled the runs on...
Both passing the hundred and Tillakaratne passing 150 before falling for 164, and when Samaraweera fell for 119, the visitors declared at 7 for 515...

The hosts then started badly with Walker back in the ******** for 1. Fulton and Symonds got starts but went for 16 & 21 respectivley, and when Nixon fell for 8, the hosts were in dire straights.. With all the bowlers chipiing in the hosts were no match as they were rolled for a dissapointing 181..
Gallage and Samaraweera impressing with both picking up 3 wickets...
Forced to follow on the hosts got a better start with a 40 run stand but once the breakthrough was made a collapse was immenent... both openers fell within 4 balls of each other and with the dismissal of Symonds and Nixon Kent were in trouble...
Ealham(34) and Key(50) put on a 60 run stand and with Hockley(66) and McCague(24) Kent put up a fight but still fell short of making the visitors bat again by 70 runs..
Gallage again pushing for 1st test claims with 3 wickets along with Gunaratne...

A 1st up win and a convincing one at that, some good signs with the form of Aravinda, Hashan and Samaraweera, and with Gallage showing his worth with Zoysa out injured things look good..

More soon...

Well the next game was against a combined Universities side, and with a easy win expected this was a chance for a few of the guys to really get some form under the belt...
The side for the match

D Jayawardene
S Jayasuriya
M Atapattu
P De silva (c)
K Sangakkara(wk)
R Arnold
H Dharmasena
M Bandaratilleke
D Zoysa
I Gallage
M Muralitharan

Again after winning the toss Sri Lanka elected to bat 1st and despite Jayasuriya going for only 2, and De Silva 11 the rest cashed in...
Attapattu and Arnold notched up half centuries whilst the big winners were Sangakarra(160) and Jayawardene(216)...
The Visitors declaring at 7 for 561...
With Vaas rested and Zoysa returning from a bout of the flu, the attack looked a little weaker but Murali was playing his first game on tour and was looking to impress...
All Bolwers bowled brilliantly, as they dismantled the hosts to bowl them out for a poulty 103, Murali, Dharmasena and Zoysa all picking up 3...
Forced to follow on the University boys put up a bit more of a fight but were still outclassed by some great bowling...
Zoysa and Murali took 3 each, but it was Bandaratilleke who picked up 4 for 40 from 24 overs...
Another easy win, but some concerns creeping into the camp about the form of key man Jayasuriya, he has struggled in the 1st 2 games and needs some runs soon..

Next game against Durham shortly...

Keep the story going Blewy.

It's a good read (as always). I used to love the ACC ones!

I'm assuming your playing on normal mode?

The next game against Durham, and again changes were made, but Jayasuriya remained, we need him to find form before the Tests... The side is:

S Jayasuriya
K Sangakkara
M Atapattu
P De silva
R Wickramaratne
M Vandort
T Samaraweera
H Dharmasena
D Zoysa
W Vaas
M Muralitharan

After winning the toss and electing to bat, things went bad for the first time this tour when the batting was, well non existent...
We lost 7 wickets in the 1st session and were bowled out not long after for a miserable 153, top score of 32 to Wickramaratne...
The Hosts had their tails up and with an opening stand of 89 they had reason to be on a high..
The top 4 all made over 40 and at 2/202 things were looking bad for the visitors, but Murali stepped in and destroyed the middle order.. But once again a fight as Durham made 286 before being dismissed... Murali the pick with 4/77..
A defecit of 133 was a big test and when 4 wickets had fallen by the time it was erased SL were facing their 1st defeat on the tour, But a Brilliant innings from Wickramaratne and some good support from the middle/lower order took Sri Lanka from a position where they were fighting to stay alive to a position where they had the upper hand.. Wickramaratne produced his 2nd highest FC score of 196*, whilst the bottom 6 batsman except Murali all made double figure scores, SL eventually bowled out for 438, leaving Durham a tough chase of 306 to win the match with Murali and Samaraweera on a turning wicket...
Durham were gone as quickly as the 3rd over as Chaminda Vaas took 2 wickets in as many balls to have them reeling at 2-5, The fight was still there but they never looked like challenging and despite the spinning wicket Chaminda Vaas bagged the most taking 5/39...
Again Jayasuriya failing he now has 72 runs from his 4 innnings on tour and desperatley needs something or he may be in danger of being left out of the side for the 1st test..

Cricketer Of The Year
With the game against Middlesex being the last warmup before the 1st test the side which is most likely to play in that game was selected, but this is not to say players are safe for the series opener..

S Jayasuriya
D Jayawardene
M Atapattu
P De silva
R Wickramaratne
H Tillakaratne
T Samaraweera
H Dharmasena
D Zoysa
W Vaas
M Muralitharan

Again another win of the toss and once again electing to bat, and once again Jayasuriya fails, out for 11 and with so many players pushing for a test spot he is under immense pressure and will need to shine in the 2nd inns to secure a spot..
Other than Jayasuriya, Tillakaratne was the only other man to fail, out for 6... The Best batting came from Jayawardene(153), Samaraweera(123) and Dharmasena(119) as the visitors posted 9 dec for 593 and the likelyhood of Jayasuriya getting another bat was very slim...
In reply Middlesex were no match as they struggled to contend with the Sri Lankan bowlers, in particular Murali as he took 4 as Middlesex were dismissed for 175..
Following on again, things didn't get any better for the hosts, as only Weekes' 63 showed fight, as again Murali cleaned up this time taking 5 as Middlesex were rolled for 168...
So a Inns and 250 Run win to the visitors, but the 1st big decision for Manager Brendon Goff as he must decide whether to risk taking an out of form Jayasuriya into the 1st test...

Well the squad for the 1st test was announced and it was a tough decision, but selectors dropped star opener Sanath Jayasuriya after a string of poor performances on tour so far, the squad is as follows:

K Sangakkara
D Jayawardene
M Atapattu
P De silva (c)
R Wickramaratne (wk)
H Tillakaratne
T Samaraweera
H Dharmasena
D Zoysa
W Vaas
M Muralitharan

The side was an interesting one with 3 keepers selected, 2 spinners and only the 2 quicks, and to add to that the medium pace of Dharmasena. Batting was strong with Dharmasena coming off a 100 in the last tour game batting down at 8.
The England squad was as follows:

M Trescothick
M Vaughan
G Thorpe
G Hick
M Ramprakash
K Pietersen
A Stewart
A Caddick
P Hutchison
A Mullally
M Hoggard

The weather was a little overcast but the pitch was very good, and it would be tough for the bowlers...
The toss was again won by Sri Lanka, Yet to lose a toss on tour, and Aravinda decided to bat.
Jayawardene and Sangakarra strode out and it wasn't long before the 1st wicket fell, Jayawardene bowled by Hoggard for 6, 1-15..
Attapattu joined Sangakaraa and the pair batted through lunch scoring freely, but after lunch there was a rain break for half and hour and immediatley after the resumption Hoggard picked up his 2nd, Sangakarra gone for 42, 2-112...
De Silva got a pearler from hutchison and was gone for a duck suddenly Sri Lanka in a little bit of trouble at 3-117...
Wickramaratne and Attapattu settled the ship before the latter departed 10 short of a hundred, Sri Lanka 4-168..
Tillakaratne made 37 before falling to the part-time spin of Trescothick with the score at 241 and when Wickramaratne fell for 58 with the score still on 241, Sri Lanka were in big trouble at 6-241...
Samaraweera and Dharmasena then attacked the bowling, taking the partnership past 100 before Dharmasena fell for 47, 7-356...
Samaraweera batted superbly and with the assistance of Zoysa(29) and Vaas(21) they took the score to 484 before Samaraweera was finally dismissed for a brilliant 132, his 2nd test Hundred...
For England, Hoggard and Hutchison both collecting 4 but were rather expsensive...

In reply England got off to a solid start through Trescothick and Vaughan, taking the score to 52 before Vaughan fell to Zoysa for 24...
Trescothick and Thorpe took the score along to 99 before Trescothick departed for 39..
Hick managed only 17 before falling to Dharmasena, England 3-119...
Ramprakash joined Thorpe and the pair began to score freely, they took the score passed 200 and both had reached milestones, Ramprakash 50 and Thorpe 100, before the latter was dismissed by Samaraweera for 122, 4-292..
Ramprakash then brought up his 100 before falling 1 run later, England 5-318..
The tail didn't do alot but they hung around enough for Pieterson to post a well compiled 76 and help England reach 399 before eventually being dismissed..
Dharmasena the stand out with the ball taking 4-60, Murali struggling with only the 1 wicket...

An 85 run lead for the Sri Lankans with just under 5 sessions of cricket remaining and from the outset it was clear that the visitors were out for the win as they attacked the English bowlers in an attempt to try and gain a win..
Sangakarra and Jayawardene scored freely and took the score to 107 before Sangakarra fell for 51.. This did not stop the Sri Lankans attacking but when Jayawardene fell for 78, it signalled a mini collapse, as they lost 4 wickets for only 9 runs before Tillakaratne and Samaraweera steadied themselves, taking the score to 200 before Samaraweera fell for 22...
Sri Lanka declaring at 6 for 219 with a lead of 304 and 2 and a half sessions remaining...
Mullally, Hutchison and Hoggard all took 2 wickets for England...

There was a chance for England to have a go at the win, but from the outset they were in a defensive mindset.. Trescothick and Vaughan put on 80 for the 1st wicket before Vaughan was trapped in front by Zoysa for 37....
Trescothick made 43 before being dismissed with the score at 105.. From ther Thorpe(27*) and Hick(8*) played out the match for a draw to start the series...

A even start to the series, still a few players who need to find form and a bit dissapointing that a few of the big guns didn't fire...
Man of the Match went to Thilan Samaraweera who played very well...

Next game is against Glamorgan and is our only warmup before the 2nd test...
More soon...
