International 12th Man
West Indies vs Pakistan - 3rd Test

Just for the record, I don't believe in bringing in young players and debuting players in dead tests - always play your strongest team and always play to win in test matches.

One change for the match as the pitch is a raging seamer Tonge comes in to make his debut for Miller. Miller has taken only two wickets in the series and has been totally outbowled by Wallace. We will miss Miller's lower order batting for sure, but ultimately you have to pick bowlers for their bowling. Richards keeps his place at the top of the order, but with just one fifty in 4 tests so far considering his age this may be his career on the line.

We lose the toss and bowl, but considering the pitch it's not that bad a second choice. A good toss to lose.

Pakistan 1st Innings - 268 all out (Umar 104, Tonge 4-68)

A bit disappointing that we let them get away after having them really teetering at 90-5. Umar was truly excellent in a counter-attacking innings (104 from just 117 deliveries) guiding the tail to a good total on this pitch. Tonge impressed on debut and Wallace finished the tail off by claiming the wickets of no's 8, 10 and 11 in one over.

West Indies 1st innings - 228 all out (Gayle 70, Saadat Munir 5-57)

Gayle is the only batsman to really make anything worthwhile, though Sarwan and Bravo both made 20 before being dislodged. Sammy (31) and Taylor (21) made useful contributions that were essential in giving us a chance. We will have to bowl well now, anything over 200 is going to be a very tricky chase in the last innings.

Pakistan 2nd innings - 402 all out (Manzoor 99, Alam 94, Sammy 4-90)

Well we'll have to chase just a bit more than 200 it seems! The Pakistan top order made consistent partnerships and at 275-3 we knew the match was going away from us. Taylor has been poor in a dead rubber again, I wonder if that will be a trend? With 5 sessions left in the match we will need a miracle to chase this down on this pitch. We need 443 to win, but I'll be surprised if we make 300.

West Indies 2nd Innings - 229 all out (Gayle 66, Munir 8-55)

Munir bowls exceptionally to finish with 13 wickets in the match. Bravo (40) was the only other effort of note from our top 6, but we didn't lose the match in this innings but in our bowling performance in favourable conditions on day 3. Still overall a very pleasing series win.

Pakistan win by 213 runs

West Indies win the series 2-1

Gayle - 349 runs @ 58.17, 1 hundred, 3 fifties
Pollard - 218 @ 43.60, 2 fifties
Sarwan - 194 @ 38.80, 2 fifties
Ramdin - 175 @ 35.00, 1 hundred
Bravo - 158 @ 31.60, 1 fifty
Chanderpaul - 154 @ 30.80, 1 fifty
Sammy - 148 @ 37.00, 1 fifty
Taylor - 89 @ 17.80
Miller - 69 @ 34.50
Richards - 59 @ 9.83

Gayle was consistent in giving us good starts but his partner Richards was poor with a top score of 17. He is 33 now and will never play for WI again. Our middle order kept on getting starts but none of them pushed on and made a hundred once which is a bit worrying. I hope it isn't a trend, especially for Pollard who averages a very impressive 50.46 in his 8 tests but with only one hundred.

Taylor - 15 wickets @ 31.67, 1 five-for
Bravo - 14 @ 31.07
Wallace - 13 @ 21.54
Sammy - 11 @ 31.27
Tonge - 5 @ 29.40
Miller - 2 @ 83.50

Wallace was excellent in his debut series and Tonge impressed on debut too which both bode well for the future. Taylor bowled excellently in the first two tests before bowling trash in the final test, which strangely was on the most beneficial pitch for quick bowling.

Next up is the five match ODI series.

International 12th Man
ODI Series vs Pakistan

Team for the first ODI with squad players below

Gayle*
Chanderpaul
Sarwan
Barath
Pollard
Bravo, Dwayne
Baugh*
Miller
Taylor
Wallace
Tonge

Bravo, Darren
Deonarine
Sebastien
Edwards

Sammy's ODI record is shocking and his domestic one day record quite average too so he isn't selected despite a quite good test series. Likewise, Ramdin's ODI record last year was poor so in comes Baugh who is a very aggressive batsman and possibly better suited at 7 or 8 in limited overs matches. We will persist with Chanderpaul opening, more for lack of other options really. Baugh opening may be something I try if it doesn't work.

1st ODI

West Indies 219 all out (Dw Bravo 65, Pollard 50, Munir 3-42, Arafat 3-54)
Pakistan 220-6 (Alam 63*, Afridi 59, Tonge 3-42, Bravo 3-43)

Lost wickets early in our innings and didn't make enough to defend properly. We bowled economically and kept it until the penultimate over, but Pakistan never looked like missing out.

2nd ODI

Pakistan 301 all out (Jamshed 111, Manzoor 91, Taylor 5-62)
West Indies 262 all out (Gayle 107, Pollard 86)

Pakistan were 197-0 after 30 overs but Taylor in his second spell ripped through them in order to keep the score at something chaseable. We kept up with the run-rate throughout and with Gayle and Pollard together in full flow at 190-3 were looking good but after they were dismissed two overs apart we timidly surrendered.

3rd ODI

Liam Sebastien comes in for Miller who has gone wicketless in both matches. Hopefully he will strengthen the lower order too.

West Indies 222 all out (Bravo 71, Samiullah Khan 4-52)
Pakistan 153 all out (Jamshed 63, Wallace 6-24)

We were looking grim until Bravo and Baugh came together for a century partnership. They bashed 42 runs in the batting powerplay but both fell soon after and we stuttered to a below-par score. Thankfully Wallace was exceptional in a match-winning performance. In the end debutant Sebastien wasn't required to bowl. The series is still alive.

4th ODI

Edwards comes in for Tonge who has followed up a good debut with two poor showings (1-77 in the 2nd match clobbering). Darren Bravo also comes in for Barath and will bat at 5 with Pollard moving up to 4.

West Indies 142 all out (Dwayne Bravo 42, Tanvir 4-40)
Pakistan 143-2 (Younis 67*, Jamshad 60)

Gayle went first ball and it was all downhill from there. 27-5 inside 10 overs. Then Edwards helps remind everyone why he was dropped with a spell of 5-0-38-0. Series lost.

5th ODI

West Indies 225-9 (Chanderpaul 76, Khan 3-45)
Pakistan 226-7 (Younis 74, Alam 61, Sebastien 4-40)

Once again we can seem to only put together one partnership of significance, Chanderpaul putting together 115 with Pollard (50) but little else. Edwards was retained and bowled tightly (10-0-35-1) and Sebastien was excellent giving us a sniff with some quick middle over wickets but we never made enough in our innings.

Pakistan win the series 4-1

Pollard - 212 runs @ 42.40, 3 fifties
Dwayne Bravo - 191 @ 38.20, 2 fifties
Gayle - 157 @ 31.40, 1 hundred
Baugh - 155 @ 38.75
Chanderpaul - 118 @ 23.60, 1 fifty
Barath - 36 @ 12.00
Sarwan - 28 @ 5.60
Sebastien - 22 @ 7.33
Darren Bravo - 3 @ 1.50

Pollard delivers in an ODI series but still no hundred. More worryingly he and Gayle were the only batsman with a strike rate higher than 80 (Pollard SR 91.77, Gayle 104.66). The Chanderpaul opening experiment clearly isn't working, perhaps Baugh has played himself into contention at the top of the order. Sarwan followed a poor test series with a disastrous ODI series, hopefully he picks up in the tour of England to come.

Taylor - 10 wickets @ 22.90
Wallace - 7 @ 27.00
Sebastien - 4 @ 12.25
Tonge - 4 @ 37.25
Bravo - 3 @ 69.97
Pollard - 2 @ 21.50
Edwards - 1 @ 73.00
Miller - 0-96 from 20 overs

We bowled quite economically (Only Tonge had an economy over 5) but only Taylor consistently produced a wicket taking threat. To be fair, we were so often trying to defend low totals that I don't blame the bowlers much.

Next up is the big one, a five test tour of England!

Good luck for your five test tour - its a shame that I never get five test match series because I always play with New Zealand! Quality performance in your first two tests against Pakistan too.
