First game vs. Scotland saw some decent allround batting get us to 166 for 3. Fulton failing miserably.

Scotland got off to a great start but some super bowling from Franklin and Vettori saw them bowled out 9 runs short. An ominous start for Jeets.
Scorecard:
Fulton 6 (6)
Guptill 56 (30)
Ryder 51 (46)
Taylor 32* (28)
McCullum 19* (11)

Bowling:
Mills 2-0-28-1
Bond 3-0-23-0
Vettori 4-0-24-3
Patel 4-0-40-0
Franklin 3.5-0-27-5
Oram 2-0-13-1

Disaster struck as the NZ middle order collapsed in their next match vs. a good looking South African team and they were crushed by 8 wickets.

Scorecard:
McCullum 22 (12)
Ryder 7 (6)
Guptill 6 (8)
Taylor 3 (10)
Redmond 1 (3)
Oram 2 (4)
Franklin 14 (22)
Vettori 8 (11)
Jeets 16* (31)
Bond 2 (7)
Mills 3* (11)

Bowlers:
Mills 4-0-17-1
Bond 3-0-22-0
Vettori 3-0-16-0
Franklin 4-0-11-0
Patel 3.5-0-26-1

Interesting how different our T20 squads are, only 9/15 players included in both our touring parties. Good luck with your story, hopefully you'll do a bit better than how I've started! ;)

A last ball thriller against Pakistan sees New Zealand's hopes of WC victory go down the sink. Shehzad held together the Pakistani innings on 66no with Vettori, Mills, Franklin and Jeets making the paltry 121 NZ set a difficult target. Jeets even bowled a maiden WAG.

HS NZ:

Taylor 33 (38)
Ryder 24 (21)
Franklin 25* (29)

Bowling:
Mills 4-0-27-2
Vettori 4-0-27-3
Patel 4-1-18-0

Australia win by 107 runs. Ack totally destroyed

No Kiwi past 20 runs, batting has been shambles so far.

After shaking off the kinks from a dismal T20 WC performance, the new management team announced their squad to tour Sri Lanka. The tour will almost certainly end in defeat with an inexperienced New Zealand side, but they are hoping to pull off an upset and take Sri Lanka as close as they possibly can.

The squad:

Guptill
McIntosh
Cumming
Taylor
Broom
Sinclair
Williamson
McCullum
Franklin
Ryder
Oram
Vettori
O'Brien
Patel
Bond
Tuffey
Martin
Southee

The previous management had failed to organize a tour match which left the current team fuming.
The first Test match was beginning and the team was without match practice, the selected team was:
McIntosh
Guptill
Sinclair
Ryder
Taylor
Oram
Franklin
McCullum (wk)
Vettori (c)
Bond
O'Brien

First Test Match in Sri Lanka

Lost the toss and Sri Lanka bat first. Sangakkara and Kapogedera set off to a rollicking start and NZ were immediately looking lost when captain Vettori struck early into his spell. Lunch saw Sri Lanka sitting comfortably at 130-1 on a great batting track.
The second session saw a great resurgence from New Zealand with Bond bowling a fast aggressive spell of bowling that saw Jayawardene gone right after lunch for 25. Vettori bowled economically but in a stroke of genius pulled himself off for Franklin who immediately took the wicket of Mathews. Despite Kapu's fighting 101 NZ were on the front foot at this stage with Franklin and O'Brien taking the wickets of Samaraweera and Kapugedera. At tea NZ have their tails up with Sri Lanka on 216-5.
Sri Lanka battled hard to end the day on 291-7 after Franklin struck Dilshan early after Tea. Warnapura and Vaas put on a sturdy partnership that was broken shortly before the days break with O'Brien bowling into the wind.
Day 2:
Not long into day 2 Sri Lanka were skittled out for 324 with Bond and O'Brien scything throw the tail. Guptill and McIntosh remained relatively untroubled to reach lunch at 34-0.
After lunch McIntosh fell soon to the might of Murali and Mendis who went on to bamboozle their way throw the Kiwi middle order. Guptill managed 52 before finally being removed. A mini collapse occuring after his wicket after both Taylor and Oram fell in the space of a few overs. At 134-5 NZ would be hoping that Ryder can go on to lead them to a good score.
Ryder and McCullum rebuilt well after Tea with Ryder falling only after reaching 78. Vettori and McCullum made it safely to stumps. NZ sit on 253-7 and will look to bat past lunch tomorrow, McCullum 45*, Vettori 22*.

Day 3:
Vettori fell after only adding 2 runs to his previous days score. McCullum then struck out lifting NZ to a score of 307, only 17 runs behind Sri Lanka. Murali taking a well deserved 5fer. Bond removed the first innings centurion for 20 to leave Sri Lanka leading by 65 runs for 1 at lunch.
Sangakkara and Jayawardene managed a good partnership to put Sri Lanka on top, Vettori removing his opposite number shortly before the tea break. Sri Lanka leading 163-2
NZ fought on to find a wicket, and Oram did manage to induce a poor shot from Mathews. Their aggressive spell continued with Franklin hitting Samaraweera in the head leading to him retiring hurt. Sri Lanka end the day leading by 249-3 (and 1 retired hurt)

Day 4:
At lunch Sri Lanka only lost Sangakkara for 120 360 runs ahead.
Sri Lanka then going on to declare 485 runs ahead of New Zealand on the stroke of tea.
McIntosh was removed first ball and the coach could be heard saying "**** off you'll never play for us again." Guptill was removed soon afterwards for 0. NZ lost 5 wickets in the last session of the day with Oram being lost in the final over. 400 needed to win with Taylor 22*.

Day 5:
After Taylor was removed for 37 all hope was lost. Sri Lanka winning by 360 runs.

1st Innings
Kapugedera 101
Warnapura 45

O'Brien 4-105
Franklin 3-54

Ryder 78
McCullum 78

Murali 5-94
Mendis 3-83

2nd Innings:

Sangakkara 120
Warnapura 83

Ryder 21

Murali 5-44

Second Match:

Dilshan and Vaas secured a big first innings score for Sri Lanka with hundreds from both. Vettori was the best from NZ with a 5fer yet SL still managed 469. After a positive start NZ fell away to 242 and were made to follow on. They reached 295 second time around and managed a few Sri Lankan wickets in their small chase of 69-2. NZ will be dissappointed yet glad the drubbing wasn't worse than it could have been.

SL
Dilshan 125
Vaas 105

Vettori 5-123
O'Brien 3-80

NZ

Ryder 72
Taylor 57

Murali 3-74
Mendis 3-76

NZ: Vettori 69*
Franklin 53

Mendis 4-79
Vaas 3-57

SL: Jayawardene 34*
Mathews 19*

Tuff 2-23

Third match:

More of the same, huge Sri Lankan first innings and massive NZ first innings collapse. 330 in their 2nd innings which led to some improvement and a 10 wicket loss.

Nice result in the ODIs. :) How's Patel doing, did he play at all in Pakistan?
Just ODIs, expensive but took a heap of wickets. Sinclair was recalled and typically scored a whole heap of runs.

Currently playing Australia in the Test series after rolling over Bangers.

Franklin scored a big 100 in the first Test and then got a 5fer and Australia were made to follow on. Second innings they did better and we were left to chase a 100 for the win. Unfortunately there was 4 hours of rain and it ended up as a draw.

In the first innings of the second match and they were 100-1

Jeets just took 5-38 and they were all out for 293. Very happy with that.

HAHAH! Ryder 195 and McIntosh 111 meant we reached 514-9 dec.

Hughes double ton means a win is unlikely. Franklin took 6 and Patel 4. Opening with Ryder and he is gone for 0.

We need 96 to win with a session to go. Sinclair on 45* Broom 10* - Oram, McCullum, Vettori, Franklin, Patel and Southee to come.

Good stuff to beat Australia! I'm approaching that series soon, would be pleased if I could replicate your result with a 1-0 series win.

So after a stellar Test series NZ want to follow it up in the ODIs.

The squad is slightly weakened with Franklin and Tuffey carrying injuries.
Ryder, McCullum, Vettori, Guptill, Fulton, Taylor, Williamson, Bond, Patel, Oram, Southee, McSkimming, Scott, Broom and Sinclair all made the cut.

1st One Day International vs. Australia
Conditions were a mixed bag for the first ODI. Cloudy but also partial to spin which meant Vettori and Jeets were both in the lineup, McSkimming was also given his first cap.
The lineup: Guptill, McCullum, Ryder, Fulton, Taylor, Sinclair, Vettori, Oram, Patel, McSkimming, Bond
NZ lost the toss and Australia decided to bat first.
McSkimming took his first international wicket in his second over, taking Hughes out for 10 and later took the other Australian opener Jaques. McSkimming continued his dream debut with the wicket of Clarke in his 8th over on the trot and bowled straight through Hussey to take it to 4 wickets. Ending with great figures of 36-4.
Australia were bowled out for 240 after a fighting 100 from Ponting.

In reply McCullum and Guptill put on 159 runs in 27.2 overs before McCullum was finally removed on 82 by White. Guptill finished on 121* (115) to lead NZ home by 8 wickets with 6 overs to spare.

2nd One Day International

Southee came in for Jeets on a track with something in it for the quicker men. NZ won the toss and opted to have a bat due to the morning sun. McCullum and Guptill put on yet another 100 run partnership to start the day before Baz was dismissed for 48. NZ finished up on 259 with contributions from every batsman to come to the crease. Ryder finishing on 81* and Fulton 39*.
Jaques was unshakeable in reply and hit an unbeaten 107 to guide Australia home. Ponting's cameo of 55 (50) pushed the momentuem to Australia early on and NZ were unable to hold the Australians back. Southee was expensive.

3rd One Day International

The winning team in the first match reappeared in the 3rd. NZ won the toss and sent Australia in only because they prefer to chase. Despite bowling well early on Australia still managed to find the boundary when they needed it and reached a huge 306.
A total which NZ never even got remotely close to after Johnson and Siddle removed NZ's top order for 36 runs.

The five match series was 2-1 to Australia.

4th One Day International

Sinclair out, Williamson in. NZ bat first after winning the toss. NZ's batsman failed to capitalize on their starts with only Williamson sticking around to post a half century batting at 6, immediately confirming the wisdom in his selection with a run a ball 63.

Despite a good tight spell of bowling from McSkimming and Oram Australia coasted to victory, leaving NZ really missing the figures of Tuffey and Franklin.

5th One Day International

Scott was given his cap in another poor spinning surface and NZ decided to have a bowl in the dead rubber match up. A good bowling performance saw NZ restrict Australia to 234-9 with McSkimming taking 3 and Bond and Scott both taking 2. Oram and a run out led to the other wickets.

McCullum led the charge with cameo innings from Guptill and Fulton. Baz put up 123 with him hitting the winning runs in the final over NZ needing 7 to win. A boundary and then a 2 leading NZ to victory.
