******Game 1 v West Indies***********

well the world cup side was picked from a possible 30 the side was cut down to 15. those players where

S Pollock (c), M Boucher, N Boje, H Dippenaar, H Gibbs, A Hall, J Kallis, J Kent, G Kirsten, L Kluesner, M Ntini, R Peterson, J Rhodes, M Hayward, D Terbrugge.
Missing from the squad due to injury was C Langerveldt, M Zondveki & A Donald.

1st game was against the west indies, firm favourites where the south africans, the squad was picked and is as follows.

H Gibbs, G Kirsten, J Kallis, H Dippenaar, J Rhodes, L Kluesner, J Kent, S Pollock (c) , M Boucher, N Boje, M Ntini.

Conditions where perfect for the cup opener, Sth africa won the toss and pollock decided to have a bat.

******SOUTH AFRICA HAVE A BAT***********

south africa got off to a slowish start with some good bowling from king and collymore, sth africa 0 - 29 off 10 overs.gibbs decided to get the runs flowing and the next 5 overs south africa put on 41. h gibbs the destroyer going to 49 (48). H Gibs bought up his 50 in the 16th over and the crowd and team appluaded this fine start. G Kirsten playing the anchor role with 24 (50).
The westindian bowlers where starting to take a hammering with south africa moving alone nicely to be 0 - 143 @ the 30 over mark. H Gibb 89 (107) and G Kirsten 44 (82). all but one of the bowlers where going for 4.5 runs per over. G Kirsten then bought up his 50 in the 32 over, a good anchor role is what he had adopted as gibs was at nearly a runa ball. H Gibbs then bring up his tonne, and everyone in the ground stood and cheered, a magnificent chanceless innings 100 (122) with 13 boundries. west indies needed to stop the on slaught. south africa 0 - 175 of 35 overs and they where looking at a big total.

Th e 200 bought up in the 39th over, and in the same over G Kirsten was dismised trying to put the indian bowler over the fence, caught in the deep for 75 (106). a great innings, that bought j kallis out to the middle, and when leaving the dressing room he was gettinga good talking to by south african skipper s pollock. (GET QUICK RUNS) was the message. the 2 put on a few quick runs before H Gibbs was next to go for a well made 142 (146). a magnificent innings. with 3 overs to go, L Kluesner was promoted to hit away.
South africa would finish with 2 - 284 of there 50 overs with J Kallis finishing on 41* (32) and L Kluesner 12* (7). a very good performance by the proteas, could the west indies get the runs on what looked like a good batting deck or was the mountain just too high.

*******SOUTH AFRICA TAKE THE FIELD*******

Southa frica went on the attack early knowing early wickets would be a great start, S Campbell and Sherwan where the early batsmen.

Pollock and Ntini where bowling beautifully and when campbell played and missed and pollock hit the top of off stump it was a dream start, west indies 1 - 16. Chanderpaul was the next to bat and alot of pressure on his shoulders. When ntini trapped sarwan in front lbw of a quick 143k/ph fast ball west indies where in trouble @ 2 - 16.
That bought out champion batsmen B Lara. he scratched around and when M Ntini bowled the ball of his life to have B Lara bowled for 3 west indies where in all sorts 3 - 21. Sth africa where on fire.

14 overs had been bowled when we saw the 1st bowling change, J Kallis was handed the ball. west indies 3 - 54 and slowly trying to re build.it was a double bowling change with N Boje also bought on. C Gayle was dropped of J Kallis by J Kent, was a hard catch but did get bothhands to it diving away to his left. would this come back to hurt the south africans.
J Kallis then picked up the important wicket of S Chanderpaul for 45 (41). west indies 4 - 96 of 22 overs.
J Kent was then bought on to replace boje, and it had immediate rewards, kallis taking a fine catch at 1st slip of jacobs, west indies in all sorts 5 - 130 and in trouble.
J Kallis taking a rest and boje bought on from the other end, working in tandom with J Kent would go through the tail for not alot of runs.
N Boje would pick up C Gayle for 66 (78) and it was a fine innings. west indies then lost regular wickets to be all out for 174 of 38 overs.wouth africa winning by 110 runs in a solid performance.

**********south africa batting************

Gibbs and Kirsten got things underway for the proteas and both played some magnificent strokes, gibbs especially until kirsten fell to tait 8 (26) sth africa 1 - 30 of 8 overs. sth africa would be looking to someone to put on a big innings, maybe gibbs again. kallis was next out into the middleand in need of a big score, and 1st ball kallis put it to the fence, great shot.gibbs was the next to fall to tait not long after the 10th over for 2 (30), good catch by vincent the keeper, sth africa 2 - 36. the score slowly progressed to be 2 - 50 until cairns was bought on and had rhodes playing the wrong line and when the ball thundered into the top of offstump sth africa where 3 - 50 of 14 overs.dippenaar was next in and him and kallis moved the score along nicely till dippenaar decided to get the score moving along and skyed one of vittori, which was judged really well by mills and sth africa lost there 4th wicket @ 94 of 27 overs.kent was next and kallis kent really needed to knuckle down and put some runs on the board, kent played a shot onto the onside, well fielded by cairns, and a silly run seen kallis run out , just not what the proteas needed., kallis gone for 34 (62) sth africa 5 - 109 of 32 nd in trouble. next over kent was the next victim to be run out for 8 (24) sth africa in all sorts 6 - 110. the world of sth african cricket was on kluesners and pollocks shoulders, they played some magnificent strokes and where going along o.k until pollock as caught at square leg for a well amde 33 (37) the proteas 7 - 166 of 46. sth africa would finish a dissapointing 7 - 191 of there 50 overs,
l kluesner 36* (56)
m boucher 11* (10)
pick of the n/z bolwing was a tiat with 10 overs 1 maiden 2 - 37, k mills bolwed well and was ulucky not to have a few wickets, his figures where 10 overs no maidens 0 - 25.
could south africa defend or would n/z take the points.

***********south africa bowling*************

n/z require 192 @ 3.8 r p/o
m bell and vincent got things going, pollock to bowl the first over.vincent played very positive from the 1st ball adn when pollock bowled his 1st 2 overs as maidens bell was put under pressure, and looked to go after ntini, but to no avail. caught by kent @ 2nd slip bell gone for a duck (19) n/z 1 - 10. sinclair next out to the middle and pollock putting pressure on the new batsmen allready.when pollock picked up sinclair 3 overs later for 11 (8) n/z where 2 - 24. sth africa starting to lift.mcmillian and vincent moved the score along nicely to be 2 - 42 off 14 overs.boje and kallis where both given the ball and when he picked up mcmillian, clean bolwed for 13 (36) n/z 3 - 64 of 18.
this was a game for any one to take.when boje got mills 2 overs later n/z 4 - 66 and sth africa sniffing a victory. kallis then hit vincent infront, BIG LBW APPEAL............................. not out says the umpire, well that looked plum from up here. 4 - 77 of 24 overs and the game in the balance.vincent looked set at 40 (68). flemming the new batsmen 5 (12) .n/z 4 - 95 of 29 overswhen pollock bought ntini back on. vincent bought up his 50 with a big applause and also bought up n/z's 100. 4 - 102 of 30 overs, 90 runs required @ 4.5 runs per over. flemmingand vincent moving the score along nicely with some nice shots and some good batting. n/z require 71 of 102 deliveries.n boje was bought back on and and when he picked up flemming for 33 (43) n/z 5 - 128 and still a slight hope for sth african captain s pollock.kallsi was then bought back on and when he picked up vincent for 59 (105) n/z 6 - 130 what a finish we where up for. alot of pressure on richardson and cairns shoulders. a run out attempt at richardson end looked out and contrevery when giving not out, well that could be the turning point.the 2 would batt very well and play some magnificent shots to get there country home with 2.5 overs to spare.the 2 took the score form 6 - 130 to 6 - 193 with some great stroke play
m richardson 39* (38)
c cairns 26* (35)

pick of the sth african bowlers was n boje with 10 overs 1 maiden 3 - 40.

******STH AFRICA FIELDING**********

Well pollock and ntini started up for the proteas with the ball and where beating the bat left ight and centre, some superb bowling but no reward for the opening pair until s pollock got the breakthrough in the 8th over. bangladesh 1 - 24 of 8 overs. 14 overs had passed and the deshys where 1 - 42 when a double bowlingchange was made with boje and kallis both given the ball. the 2 bowled well in tandem not getting the breakthrough but very unlucky with balls going just passed the outside each on numerous occasions.j kent was tossed the ball and immediate break through, bashar bowled for 22 (77) deshys where 2 - 79 of 31 overs, and very next ball kent breaks through again lbw 1st ball, hussain out for 0 (1) 3- 79. kluesner was bought on and he picked up a wicket early gettingislam 2 (11). from there on the deshys batted superbly with some poor bolwing seen sahariar bring up his 100 (156). khan also batted well and was unbeaten on 54* to give the deshys a respectable total of 4 - 205.
sth africa really have not hit top form in this world cup and book makers have dropped right of em, and the proteas where paying $11.50 to take out the tournament. they where really struggling in the campaign.

Interesting story there bugs.
Is Jon Kent any good? Interesting swap for Hall, or even Justin Kemp.
And you have kept with kirsten instead of Smith, or even Dippennaar instead of Smith.

Wish you luck against the canadians! Shouldnt need it though

no changes to the last team that beat bangledesh.
cananda won the toss and elected to bat on what was a wonder batting deck. s pollock the skipper took the first over and i maraj was the batsmen . a very good 1st over by pollock, beating the bat on several occasions and bowling a maiden.m ntini picked up the 1st wicket in his 2nd over. canada 1 - 11 of 4 overs. canada then plotted along to take the score to 1 - 27 of 12 when m ntini found the edge of de groot however a lack lustered effort by kallis seen him put down an absolute dolly. canada 1 - 51 when the bolwing change was bought on. n boje one of sth africa's stars so far was handed the ball. boje nearly successful in his first over with a big lbw appeal and the batsmen playing and missing. the other end ntini was given a spell and kallis was given the ball. boje picked up a wicket in his next over and canada where 2 - 59 of 17 overs. kallis bowled billcliff for 6 (18) canada where 3 - 75 (21). next over boje picked up maraj for 35 (66), canada where 4 - 83 of 23.kallis was replaced after his 5 overs and kluesner was given an opportunity. boje finished his 10 over sp[ell and unlucky to have only 2 wickets with a catch dropped and lbw appeals left right and centre. but well bowled with final figures of 2 - 29 of 10 overs. cananda where 4 - 129 of 34 overs. kallis then dropped another of kent and kallis drops his head, usually so good with his catching in at 1st slip. kent then picking up diwan for 33 (48). canada batting well @ 5 - 164 off 38 overs. kent then picked up another wicket when he had prashad plum in front. 6 - 176 of 40 overs. kent getting another 2 overs later. codrington 8(7). canada 7 - 188. s pollock come back into the attack after some very poor bowling and he immediately picked up seebarran for 7 (23). 2 balls he got badjour for 4. canada finishing there 50 overs @ 226 . pick of the bowlers where
n boje 2 - 29 of 10 overs
kent 3 for 46 of 8 overs

pick of the batsmen was d mills 85 (86)

could sth africa build up some confidence or would canada spoil the party.
