WORLD CUP 2007 FINAL

I decided to bring Scotty Styris back into the side because both Stephen Cunis and Bruce Martin haven't really shown they're much better in the bowling department, and Styris obviously bolsters the batting.
So Styris in for Martin is the only change from the semi-final lineup.

Shock horror - we've got a pitch with erratic bounce plus very cloudy conditions for the final.
Doesn't promise a lot of runs and as luck would have it, we've lost the toss and been put in to bat.

New Zealand - 191/8

Not a lot to say really as disappointment sets in.
Well done to the Aussies.

At 117/3, we were pleased with the start we'd made, but a scintillating century from Chamara Silva with a fine supporting hand from Tillakaratne Dilshan put the home side firmly on top by stumps.

Good to see Chamara Silva in the runs, Dilshan should move onto three figures tomorrow.

Keeper Timothy Weston putting down Jayasuriya when he was still in single figures proved costly as he and Dilshan put together a massive unbeaten partnership to guide Sri Lanka through to 609/5 declared.
Stephen Fleming fell first ball to add to the pressure we were under, but Fulton and Ryder saw us through to stumps without further damage.
A long battle ahead for us to save this one! :-O

Against a team that only really contains three bowlers I'd feel pretty confident we can make a decent score.

The two young debutantes, Ryder and Weston, were going along nicely at 204/2 with Ryder approaching a fine century.
Then, disaster struck.
Weston's dismissal saw a middle order collapse as four wickets fell for five runs!
Our two experienced campaigners, Sinclair and McMillan, both followed cheaply and then Ryder also went after completing his century.
Oram got some support from the tail to take us through to a respectable 349, but we were 60 runs shy of the follow-on target.

Win to Sri Lanka by an innings and 37 runs.

A fired up Vaas and Fernando knocked off the top of the order to have us reeling at 44/3.
With the pitch taking turn, it was then just a matter of time.
Tim Weston did his best to hold things together, but only received support from Sinclair and Oram in doing so.
The tail didn't stand too much chance against the spin duo and the game was over before tea.

Pretty inept display from New Zealand, aside from a few personal efforts. Our middle order really needs to be shored up though.

SRI LANKA V NEW ZEALAND (2ND TEST)

Just one change to our team for this test with paceman Tama Canning coming in to take Bruce Martin's spot.
The pitch should favour the pace bowlers and is unlikely to crack up as badly as the first test pitch did.
The Sri Lankan side remains the same, regardless.

This pitch is a different kettle of fish than the one in the 1st Test with the bounce already poor.
I'd be disappointed if we can't dismiss the Sri Lankans for a similar score or less. 8-)

A sterling performance from Shane Bond spearheaded a terrific effort from us on Day Two.
Only an unbeaten 79 run stand for the final wicket has salvaged any respectability for the home side.

We're in a really strong position to level the series now! :)
Peter Fulton played a brilliant chanceless innings, looking in complete control all the way through.
We lead by 310 runs going into Day Four. The plan is to set the home side 400+ and give ourselves plenty of time to bowl them out!
