about regen players

Im playing as England - INTERNATIONAL ONLY - Im only in my 3rd season

The real life players are REALLY bad! Hutchinson averages 39 per wicket after 20 tests, Sidebotham even worse, around 45 per wicket! Bassano is struggling in the low 30's after 20odd tests. My only success stories are Pieterson (ave. 49 after 18 tests) and Powell (ave. 46 after 12 tests)!

Which made me think, are the abilities of the players variable from game to game? Ive seen posts saying Bassano is 'the golden boy of English cricket', but far from it for me. Same with Hutchinson, other people have him averaging low 30's but im struggling to get him out of the 40's!

Ive seen most of you talking about how you dont get decent regens till after 2010 with England but also saying that you sometimes Ctrl-Alt-Del on the contract screens to get better young players.

In International mode you dont get the contract screens, and TBH i couldnt be bothered restarting all the time if you did. So the only way i can check new youths is by viewing by name and seeing who has played ZERO games then going back and checking second team averages.

Are the youths that come through just as good on International level eventually? Or does International only hinder youth development?

Im only in my 3rd season and of the few players that have come through the best batsmen ave. around 50 and ive had one SLA @ 19.5 who has played 3 tests in his debut season taking 7 wickets at 29 runs.

Do i have to do anything diferent to get the best players or just keep waiting and checking?

What version are you playing? Judging from the players you've mentioned I am guessing ICC2002. In that case, from my experience anyway:
-Pietersen is v. good, averaged well over 50 for around 120 Tests for me
-Ed Smith pretty good as well, but then so was Bassano (averaged 45 in Tests, not sure why you've had no luck with him)
-Hick and Thorpe are good but retire early
-Ramprakash is very good also, averaged mid-30s before I moved him up to opener, retired with an average of about 48

As for bowlers:
-Hutchison was OK for me, averaged a touch over 30 in Tests, not great though
-Kevin Dean and Matt Bulbeck were marginally better
-Smethurst averaged mid-20s in Tests, v. low 20s in FC (I was playing with Lancashire)
-Jason Brown appears to be easily the best spinner IMO, averaged low 20s in Tests, Giles high 20s (though Giles is far superior with the bat)

As for the youth players, it's obviously alot more difficult if you don't redo the contracts, or are playing international only, though this is better IMO as it becomes very easy to dominate at domestic and international level if you do redo the contracts. Apart from redoing the contracts and/or setting the budget for contracts to maximum (which you can't do on international only anyway) there is nothing you can do to influence the players you get. Rest assured though that you will eventually get some good ones, from my experience you tend to get good batsmen and spin bowlers, with fewer good 'keepers and fast bowlers.

Forgot to mention: Matthew Wood (both of them) and Ian Bell averaged mid-high 40s in Tests as well.

yeah it is 2002

Bell has only played a handfull of tests for me but is slow to begin with, first season 5 tests @ around 25, second season 3 tests @ around 34, i think he'll be ok in the long run,

And ive just blooded M Wood in the ODI's and he did well.

Yeah ill just have to hit and hope with the youths, am i right in thinking good bowlers average around 17 and batsmen arond 70?

My new young SLA averaged 19 or so in Second Class and hes done well in few tests so far, 7 wickets a 29 each, but hes letting runs go at nearly 4 an over.

I think once new rookies get generated they use alt+ctrl+del end cricket2002.exe or whatever it's called, then it regenerates new rookies? I'm not sure but if that's it, I might have to try it :) Need another spinner, Cam White can't live forever

40 with the bat and 35 with the ball.

But I take 3 spinners to the sub-continent.
So he's my Ashley Giles who averages 40.

Sometimes you need to take players with less though, you won't have a squad of 60 averages all the time.

ok so last night i had quite a turn around, playing the 4th Season (the one with the Ashes in England). Hutchinson finally found some form and took his average for 39 to 33 over 8 tests, Bassano finally found some Test form, with centuries against India and Australia, a regen off spinner, Bowen, (with only 21.5 for second team aves.) took shed loads of wickets all season at around 27 each, and i had my first real prospect come through...

Welcome Mr M Ayem, LFM, second team bowling @ 15.4, i resisted his debut despite a great start to his FC career, only including him in test squads for technique training during the English summer vs. India and Aus. Tempted against India away in the winter, but the final tour, to W/Indies proved too mush to resist, especially with Hoggard Injured.

Despite a real lack of form thanks to not performing in warm up games previously, he finished the series playing 5 tests and taking 32 wickets @ 26 each. Finally a star in the making!!

I also had a player come through, Bloom, an opening w/k. He had a ****e Second team bat average of 18, but cos he was an opener and Foster was out i thought what the hell... he's now played 8 tests @ 31 including a century and a couple of 50's. Hes also had quite a few ducks but i was wondering if this is likely to be the straight regen of Alec Stewart?

What d'ya reckon?

Pieterson, Bell and Bassano are musts for an English side. All three are young and are almost certain to be around for at least ten more seasons. Looking at short-term options, Hick, Crawley and Ramprakash have all worked for me. Crawley has also kept fairly well, Trescothick can also do the job.

As far as bowling goes, I have never had great success but a line-up consisting of Hoggard, Tudor, Giles and Hutchison, with Craig White as a one day specialist seems to be a useful attack.

I was only guessing I don't know if it works. Although someone before said something about a contract or something, I dunno, I'm confused :(
