Match Report – Four Day Friendly - Australia vs. Worcestershire:
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first on a very batsman friendly pitch. Hayden was run out for 23 in the first hour of play, and at lunch on Day 1 Australia were 1/114 with Katich on 41 and acting captain Lehmann on 47. Katich fell for 42 in the first over after lunch he was bowled by Kabir Ali. Symonds was out for a duck being dismissed by Queensland teammate Andrew Bichel, Lehmann fell a short time after for a quickly made 64. When Clarke fell for 22 the score was 5/176, Watson and Haddin put on 94 for the fifth wicket. Haddin was out for 43 and Hogg was out for 3, Watson fell just short of his hundred being run out for 97. Wright chipped in with a valuable 44, The Australian’s were soon dismissed for 370. Bichel and Sheriyar both took 3 wickets for Worcs.
Kasprowicz and Lee were the opening bowlers for Australia. Lee had Weston caught behind for 5 in his third over. Watson bowled Singh for 14, and the score was 2/47. Spring was caught behind of the bowling of Hogg for 41, Hogg picked up his second wicket when he trapped Pollard in front for 11. Symonds bowled Round for 5, the score was 5/131. Hogg had Smith caught by Katich for 51, Worcestershire were in trouble at 6/139. Lee bowled Lampitt for 1, Lee then picked his third wicket also bowling Ali for 6. Bichel was out for Kasprowicz for 9 and Worcestershire needed 43 runs to avoid the follow-on with only one wicket in hand. They got to within 17 runs of the target but Wright bowled Rhodes for 46, The best of the bowlers were Hogg with 3/36 and Lee with 3/60. Australia enforced the follow-on.
Weston was the first to go, bowled by Kasprowicz for 13. Watson picked up Singh LBW for 28, and bowled Spring for 16. Hogg dismissed Pollard for 15, the score was 4/151. Soon after Hogg had Round caught behind for 7, in the next over Lee had Smith caught at second slip for 71. Wright got Lampitt LBW for 32, Watson bowled Rhodes for 52. Lee picked up the last two wickets in consecutive balls, Australia required 137 runs to win.
Hayden fell for 5 and Lehmann was out for 33, Australia cruised to the target winning by 8 wickets. Katich was 80 not out and Symonds was there on 18.
