JME01-Succesion Game part 2 :D

Neil Pickup

Cricket Web Moderator
We then acquitted ourselves well in a rain-wrecked game against Sri Lanka, making 273 in a tortuous 2-day, 150-over first innings, before restricting the tourists to 290-8 declared. There was still time for a last-session collapse, though, as 60-1 became 108-8 before Strauss and Fraser batted until stumps.

First game was against Essex in the 3rd Round of the C&G Cup. Was hoping for an easy team but Essex it is.

Only change is Keegan in for the out of form and ouyt of sourts Maunders. A fair bit of help for quicks and a bit of turn for spinners.

Captain Strauss lost the toss and we were sent in to bat.

Absolutely brilliant performance from the captain, Razzaq and Nash. We were looking completely out of sorts at 4-36 until Razzaq and Strauss combined for a 130 run partnership. Razzaq was out for 61 (86) which brought Nash in who proceeded to hit 25 from just 28 balls he ended not out with the captain who played a BRILLIANT knock ending with 142* from just 134 balls! Which meant his highest score, and his only one day hundred to date! The pair putting on an unbeaten 97 run partnership from just 54 balls!!!!!!!!!!! The innings ended at 5/261!

The only thing needed was a solid bowling effort, here's to hoping!

A great bowling effort restricted Essex to just 179 All Out. Every bowler did a job, but Tufnell did the best taking 4/42 from his 10. Keegan proved to be an inspired selection taking 3/28 from 7.3 overs.

Strauss won a well deserved man of the match award, but it was a top team effort.

GREAT MATCH MIDDLESEX!

Next up was Lancashire at home in the National League. Middlesex went in with an unchanged XI.

Conditions were poor for fast bowlers and no help at all for spinners. Strauss won the toss and elected to bat first.

Another great batting performance, however it should have been more. Stupidity on my part didn't put the batsmen on full aggression until the 38th over. We should have racked up atleast 250! However it was a great opening partnership, of 121. And then another great partnership by top scorer Weekes (95 from 120) and in form batsman Strauss (53 from 61) of 103. Innings ended at 3/233.

A great bowling performance, but it just wasn't enough. The bowlers failed to dismiss one important man, Stuart Law. Law ended up 120* from 126. An unfortunate loss in what was a match we should have won. Had we 20 or so more runs I think we would have done it easily. Unlucky loss!

Cricketer Of The Year
We lost the toss and Durham elected to bat on a cloudy day.
we got Lewis pretty soon but daley and thorpe stayed in for to long.
we speaded up and took wickets of the 2 centurions, speak resisted our bowling attack but couldnt stay long enough, good bowling from Razzaq and Laraman. and Economic bowling of Weekes.
it was a very rainy day and we had alot of interuptions 3h and 51m.
We started batting and most of the players got into duble figers..2 of em in 3 digits..wonderfull double century from Brown and a very good century from Razzaq i was happy to c we can bat :D and with some upspeading we endend on day 3.2 at 442 runs not bad..but i saw a draw coming.
we couldnt i tried to bowl them out soon but they decided with less than 1 session remaining to declare, i had nothing to lose so tried to smack..cost me 3 wickets..but than we were done..very happy with batting in 1st innings..bowling has prospect..glad to c that Laraman is bowling well.

A pitiful National League batting effort led to the record becoming 0-4 against Sussex, despite Razzaq's 31 off 16 balls. Glamorgan were the next visitors in the Championship, and Weekes, Koenig and Razzaq all made 60+ as Middlesex totalled 366. The bowling effort, however, was as toothless as usual, and centuries from Steve James and David Hemp led Glamorgan to 415.

Paul Weekes stuck around for 284 balls and nearly six hours as he anchored the Middlesex second innings with 96, but Owen Parkin took five as the hosts subsided to 237 all out, setting Glamorgan 189 in three and a half hours, effectively just over 50 overs. Hemp and Michael Powell both made 40s as the visitors eased to 142-4, but Phil Tufnell and Angus Fraser then dismissed Thomas, Hemp Kasprowicz, Cosker, Watkin and then Wallace in the space of nine overs for just six runs as Middlesex clinched an unbelievable win, Tufnell, who came on in the eighth over and bowled unchanged, taking 6-56 off 21.4 overs and Fraser 3-42.
