What is the First Ever Test Match You Remember?
And if it's interesting, why? eg. Steve Waugh scored a hundred etc.

Danny Morrison, one of the worst batsmen in the world, scoring a mighty 15-odd not out and Astle at the other end getting a 100 as we somehow stole a draw against England in 1996-97. I was 10 at the time, not sure why I don't remember any matches before that.

First Ever Test I remember watching live was back in 1987, India Vs. Aus, Chepauk Stadidum Madras. India needed 1 run to win with one wicket left, Greg Mathews bowling to Maninder Singh, LBW, Test Tied and Mathews jumping with joy. What a test !! It was a historical Test, I remember Dean Jones throwing up in the field, and then making his first double century in Test cricket.

Third Ashes Test 2002/03 (I think)...England bowled out for 79. Woke up to listen to the radio and have all the reasons why England were so poor thrown over the long wave. :)

(Edit: It was the first test...oops...)

You must have a bad memory! Or have you been living in Norway all your life?

First match I remember is India Vs South Africa (in SA) in the latter part of 1992. SA scored 390 in about 145 overs.....I think.

But I only got really into cricket in 1993 when England toured India. Azhar scored 180 odd and Sachin scored a nice 50.

First one I really remember (showing my age here) was Botham's test in 81.

Don't remember much about it at all (obviously know more retrospectively), except that the old man was made up with us winning. :D

The earliest Test I can remember part of is when I was 8 in 1995, WI touring England, all I remember is my Grandad telling me all about what cricket was and how to play while we watched on TV, can't remember which Test it was but the only actual piece of play I remember from that series is Dominic Cork's hat-trick. Oh, and when he tried to stop a four and had to run up the steps into a little building by the boundary somewhere because his momentum carried him over the ropes after he stopped it with his foot.

I can't believe my earliest cricketing memories are of Dominic Cork, that's nuts :-O

Although my earliest "proper" memory is seeing Sachin, Dravid and Ganguly in either 96 or 97 when they were all young players in England - I think a large part of whether you prefer Sachin or Lara is whichever you saw first, and as I never saw Lara in 95, Sachin has always been a bit special for me. Seeing him bat was the first time I ever felt like I was watching someone do something impossible.

India v Australia, 3rd TEST, Sydney, 2-6 January 1992

It was a 5-match series, India were 0-2 down, and looked out of sorts. India bowled first, and thus apparently didn't pick a specialist spinner in the team, to bowl alongside the very successful all-rounder Ravi Shastri. Australia were bowled out for 313, with the Indian pacemen sharing the wickets.

The reason I remember the Test distinctly is because of one of the gustiest performances ever by an opening batsman. Ravi Shastri batted 572 minutes, for 206. Apart from that, Tendulkar scored 148*, which was the first of his centuries I watched.

Unfortunately for India, the match ended in a draw, as the bowlers couldn't rattle off the Aussie batting in the 3rd innings of the match.

I vaguely remember a couple of Tests from India's previous overseas tour the Aussie one, to England, the one in which Gouch scored the 332 I think... But the above is the one I remember as in having watched it live...

That's the first match I remember as well. I was totally confused at the end......
SA had more runs than India, the scores weren't level, whad'ya mean it's a DRAW?

5 days and no result????

Just lately, I've been hoping for just that sadly. Ag n'er mind, we're gonna beat India *in India* Woohoo!
