India v Australia, 3rd TEST, Sydney, 2-6 January 1992
It was a 5-match series, India were 0-2 down, and looked out of sorts. India bowled first, and thus apparently didn't pick a specialist spinner in the team, to bowl alongside the very successful all-rounder Ravi Shastri. Australia were bowled out for 313, with the Indian pacemen sharing the wickets.
The reason I remember the Test distinctly is because of one of the gustiest performances ever by an opening batsman. Ravi Shastri batted 572 minutes, for 206. Apart from that, Tendulkar scored 148*, which was the first of his centuries I watched.
Unfortunately for India, the match ended in a draw, as the bowlers couldn't rattle off the Aussie batting in the 3rd innings of the match.
I vaguely remember a couple of Tests from India's previous overseas tour the Aussie one, to England, the one in which Gouch scored the 332 I think... But the above is the one I remember as in having watched it live...
