Crazy SA

Is it just me or does SA's decision to pick Jean-Paul Duminy as a batsman for their series v SL and the Champions Trophy seem slightly pointless if they are just going to bat him at no8 like they seem to so far?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as he is a specialist batsman (isn't he?), doesn't batting him at 8 kind of defeat the point of picking him? I know he took a wicket today but from what I hear he isn't really an all-rounder. If you're looking for a no8 to go in behind Pollock and before Boje then why not pick Andrew Hall?

Fair enough, but its still a bit of a weird one from SA

He cannot excel to his full potential at eight anyway...

Yeah I agree he's being slowly blooded but as Langeveldt says, at 8 he's only gonna get about 5 overs at the end of each innings to bat! Although the rate SA are going, he's in after 20 overs..... :)

This has to be one of the most stupid pieces of selection, ever.
Bad enough an idea to pick someone of such promise this early, but to pick him and give him no real chance to play is totally insane.
You could almost get the old Pardon phrase out for that one.

It doesn't match the idiocy behind some of Robbie Peterson's selections...

And Boeta Dippenaar's disclusion.

How a player with his record could make the test squad but not the one day squad is beyond me.

Yeh, it should have been the other way round! All the fun of the fair...

And not to mention McKenzie, even though his record isn't quite as good when you take away Kenya and Bangladesh matches.
And maybe Peterson is a substandard bowler, but someone with Duminy's clear promise to be put in such danger of being ruined is plain non-thought.
