The New ODI Championship table has been released with Australia first, New Zealand second and Sri lanka third. Surprisingly England are eighth, what's even more startling is that Kenya is ahead of Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka leap to third in ODI table
I think justifiably England are in 8th...they have been dog rough in the ODI game

Yes no complaints from me - last 12 months have been pretty poor for us - and in some ways rain has helped!

Why is it surprising that Kenya are ahead of Bangladesh?
Just look at how the Kenyans did in the last world cup compared to the Bangladeshis(who, I think, lost every match)

Bangladesh' last win against an ODI nation: 1999 WC - Pakistan.

Kenya's last win against an ODI nation: 2003 WC - Sri Lanka (wasn't it? unsure)

Think that explains it pretty well.

:-O Zimbabwe doesn't count any more? Both teams' most recent victory is against Zimbabwe.

Well at least one of our teams is actually doing well. Now I wish it would translate to Tests as well.

I think the bits and pieces players are bad for English cricket. There was a period where the English blindly followed Australias policy of seperate test and ODI teams , and paid for it .They seemed to have learnt from it , but are making the same mistakes again.

I thought NZ a few years back would have been a good example of why playing a side with only 2 specialist batsmen & the rest bits & pieces players is a bad idea.

Hmm I guess India should do some thing very quick regarding the new generation of Batsmen , Cuz Dravid ,Ganguly < Laxman,Tendulkar are gonna be there together for about 5-6 years more and gonna retire may be at the same time ...

What are they going to do though? Drop a couple? I wouldnt!
And anyway, didnt they say that about Australia a few years back? Hasnt really happened that way.

You know what - I'm thinking we don't actually KNOW how to play the OD game...they seem to be afraid to chase targets and often opt to bat first - although this is good if you have a strong batting lineup, we don't. We have our top 4 being our best batsman. Then the bits and pieces and then the tail. What might be an idea is to get a pinch hitter to open with a "blocker" opener. This way, although risky, could take advantage of the 15 overs limit and also we would have a decent middle order.

So my idea of a side would be:

Carter/Bresnan -esque pinch-hitters
Trescothick
Strauss
Vaughan
GO Jones
Pietersen - when available
Collingwood/Bell
Giles
Harmison
Hoggard
Mahmood/Napier/Tremlett

Those would make up the 11 - somehow...

Completely over-rated if you believe Craig.

The last 18 months count for nothing.
eh?

Care to give me a heads up what you mean?

I said I am glad New Zealand are 2nd in the table, and I wish it would that sort of ODI form would translate into the Test arena.

Unless you posted it in the wrong thread?

3 things....
hoggard is not good enough for ODIs, he bowls it too full, and on a flat wicket any half decent batsman will smash him all over the park.
vaughan has had enough chances IMO, hes been carried on long enough. give tresco or flintoff the captaincy.
chris read for geraint jones......

How can Hoggard be good enough for tests and not ODIs? It's the same game...there is no, despite popular belief, sweeping change in the One Day and Test match game. You need to bowl a decent line and length, and bat intelligently. Hoggard needs to be given more of a chance - unlike Gough who needs removing. Vaughan is the captain, you cannot have two different captains for different forms of cricket, especially when the players are nearly the same. It just causes friction and we wouldn't want that. Don't see how you can say Read for Jones.

Sure, I was a bit miffed when he was dropped for the last WI test...but Jones needs to be given a run - he's played what...5 matches and you've written him off already. Give the lad time - he shows potential...

It's usual if someone doesn't post a quote that they are replying to the post directly above.

I would've thought from my post content and the post above it that my comment made complete sense.
