Rain stopped play??? Nooooo! (WI vs Ireland)

At 217/3, chasing 292, Ireland had a REAL chance of winning this one, with 16 overs left to make 75.

Unfortunately, while it would be sad to see the West Indians sink to even lower depths, it would have been very exciting to see Ireland pull of such a victory.

Don't know what will happen now - the cricinfo scoreboard only updates every 20 minutes or so, and doesn't have any commentary...

Coming soon - England to warm up against Norway
Ireland really close...

Maybe the West Indies should warm up against Ludlow U11 girls reserves or something... Sad to see really...

We had Ponting the other day critising non-competitive nations competing in the ICC trophy. Well Mr. Ponting, are Ireland a non-competitive nation? If so, does that mean so are the West Indies? Should the West Indies be banned from this competition too?

Ponting should keep his trap shut....this same WI team scored a WR against them last year. I'd love to see where australia will be in 2-3 years when most of their guard is retired.....England and SA have much more staying power than australia right now.

Well, it looks as though the NatWest ought to be between England, Ireland and Derbyshire.

Don't be ridiculous. Upsets have occured many times before and it's hardly an upset in a warmup games. The result is generally meaningless and the point is really to get the players 'warmed up'.

Meaningless games, especially when the win is against an under-strength West Indies bowling attack. That said, I fear the bowling will be similar for the Natwest series - ie 3 specialists.

Jermaine Lawson is less than a shadow of what he was last year.
Ravi Rampaul.... well no explanation for that. Horrible bowling is all I could see from his figures.

Great to see Bravo get some runs though. That young man is something special.

You mean, England, Europe and Europe?

:notworthy

Oh, and in response to Liam's post, it's happened before and it'll happen again. Already mentioned the Aussies against Derbyshire a few years ago.

Ireland, Holland and the like are banana skins waiting to happen, but it's bums on seats and time in the middle - definitely not to be taken that seriously.

Ponting never commented on the West Indies. He never even commented on Ireland, therefore I don't see the basis of hostility. He was commenting on 'minnow' teams in general.

MUST restrain myself.... Oh god, I'm going to hell.

And YES, Ireland won! Will Lara survive this? Either way, I think he might get Ponting'd.

Im really really worried that people thought I was being serious with the comment..

You never know, Ludlow girls may have hired the services of Shayne Glenndulkar...

Not even Australia play a warmup game as an international game. There's never really the same intensity. I can see many people are going to (and a couple have already started) over-react and place it as the trough of West Indian cricket etc. etc. It's a practice match... practice. 8-)

Nah, I didn't - I just interpreted "warming up" in a whole different way from what you intended (at least, I like to think so) - which is why I'm going to hell. :)

Yet another Kent wicket keeper kicks some tourist butt :p ;) :kicking:

Maybe Ireland should swap with Scotland in the NCL at this rate :D - I see where Liam is coming from with the "It's only a warm up" - But at the end of the day a 2nd string International XI, should be comfortable in beating a bunch of players that play nothing more than club cricket around work, fair enough they borrowed a few more County Players from Kent/Essex etc but it was still vastly a group of unkowns.

Fantastic effort from Ireland to beat a team with a lot of West Indies first XI players.
