Now we're treating the umpire for injury. Incredible.

Yeah he's plain isn't a Test standard bowler. He's probably not even in New Zealand's five best red ball spinners.

i find it odd that I've seen no media discuss the NZ spinner thing

Will say this once and then nothing else. Defamation laws quite clear in Aus.be careful.

Santner was a Brendon McCullum 'gut' selection who has replaced Mark Craig, another 'gut' selection (though tbf Craig had a few strong performances).

I've said this before but it is a real shame that Rippon hasn't qualified yet (not that we should really have another Southern African), but he could bat 8 and perhaps actually take wickets.

Or Rachin at 6 as spinner, Watling 7, CDG 8 plus 3 specialist seamers

Santner had one REALLY good day against England with bat and ball which ended up being a matchwinning performance, so that took the scrutiny off him a bit. His relative success in ODIs and some decent performances in his first few tests earned him a good reputation as well. Mark Craig aside, there were hardly any other spinners in the discussion (before Ajaz and Somerville helped engineer some wins in the subcontinent).

When you score a ton and take some wickets (including both openers) in your countries last Test win bowling basically unchanged in the fourth innings, you can see why Santner is in the XI.

Remember when Starc badged him and the lid fell on the stumps in a one dayer? Bloke is lucky to still be here. Was an awful knock

It's always difficult to maintain control as a spinner when you're bowling 5ks too quickly (i.e Santner). The arm ball is a good weapon, but not when you're using it 4/5 times per over as batsman just can hit through the line

This summer really showing how well Australia performs without any Victorians. The evidence is overwhelming.

Hate interviews during session and drinks breaks. Disrespectful to the opposition and to the job you have to do imo
