Strong batting for the vics. Blues really missing their internationals, not a strong squad on paper.

Are we happy with Harper over Gotch or is there another reason why Gotch is not there? I guess Handscomb could easy keep anyway.

I cant wait to see Sutherland. I feel like he is a decent shot at white ball cricket for Aus over the next 24 months.

Coleman Dean Fekete Harper would be the 4 id want to leave out which means:

Finch Harvey Pucovski Handscomb Maxwell Maddinson Short Sutherland Tremain Boland Holland. Thoughts?

Vic team does look pretty strong on paper, good mix of youth and experience. I too am looking forward to see how Sutherland goes, showed a fair bit of promise last season until his campaign was curtailed by injury. Not sure why they went back to Fekete again, never been much chop with the white ball, would have rather seen one of their younger quicks though. Would definitely not want to rely on Handscomb with the gloves, not at all

NSW looks rather less convincing. The fact that they have picked two players not even on their contract list is a bit odd, especially Nair who was cut in the off season only to be recalled at the earliest opportunity.

Shame Burgey isn't here to tell us all about how #Bertmentum is the saviour Australia needs

Why are the Ashes players not being included in the one day squads as they will be back before first game?
The NSW squad is just for the QLD leg. Vics squad is probably just for the matches in Perth too.

Whats your NSW XI out of that squad.

Thanks. Since NSW is playing my home state Qld, I'd leave Neville, Patterson and Abbot out of my NSW XI ;)

Harper was very impressive in the Big Bash last season, I think he'd be much more effective than Harvey as a batsman alone, at any position. And he's a better keeper than Handscomb. Harvey will probably play though because of his potential I guess.

Short played some special knocks last season in various forms of the game too IIRC, all in all that's an insanely strong top 7

Bit sad that no shield games will be played at AB Field, but hopefully I'll manage to catch an ODD game or two there.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Jake Lehmann (C)
Wes Agar
Alex Carey
Tom Cooper
Callum Ferguson
Joe Mennie
Harry Nielsen
Lloyd Pope
Luke Robins
Alex Ross
Kane Richardson
Cameron Valente
Jake Weatharald
Adam Zampa

All in all fairly much along the lines I expected, batting lineup looks fairly thin and most of the fast bowlers I wanted to see appear to be injured. Like that Pope gets a callup, as much as playing two leggies is a risk but otherwise the attack looks too samey for my liking, a bunch of right armers all at fairly similar pace. Joof gets the captaincy like last season, Carey overlooked, but realistically he is just warming the bench for the return of Head. Head really should be playing, seems CA insisted on resting everyone in the Ashes squad, bit dumb considering he was running drinks at the Oval

Wait, so Neser didn't play the WC or an Ashes test but he can't play the one day game for Qld next week?

Same with Khawaja and Pattinson who haven't played since 3rd test, or Banctoft since 2nd test. And Starc only played the one test all series.

Does seem ridiculous, but then I guess it is only 50 over stuff that only matters in 4 years time. I'm sure they would have played if it was T20

With Patto and Starc resting them from this is fair enough considering their respective injury histories. Otherwise I absolutely agree, not bright thinking from CA.

Surely they would want state teams as strong as possible, but apparently not

When your entire domestic 50-over structure occurs over a few weeks you shouldn't be letting anyone miss any part of it that they don't have to. Such a dumb system. Oh you have a sore finger that keeps you out for 2 weeks? No 50 over cricket for you this year!

nah this is a classic nsw thing. my only thing is that I'm surprised they picked nair over chris green (if chris green is available)

Really looking forward to going to this game.

Qld with locked in test bat Labuschagne will have Burns, Renshaw and Khawaja fighting for a first test spot vs Pakistan. This against the Australian attack of Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc and Lyon.

Not to mention Warner having to come out and score massively to shut people up about his Ashes failure while Smith.exe will be re-booted to handle Aussie conditions.

As a Queenslander, I hope Neser, Stanlake, Steketee and Swepson don't suffer too much.

Green is over playing in the CPL right now, he's going alright too. Seems they have finally moved on from SOK in 50 over cricket

International Captain
Alyssa Healy's cousin Tom Healy, who keeps and opens the batting with Joe Burns made 72 on Saturday. Checking his record he's made 750 runs @ 35ish the last 2 seasons.

Any chance on him getting a Qld gig this year (not sure who reserve keeper is)? It would be great seeing Healy and McDermott playing for Qld again :)

Surely you'd have to have Feldman in there?
