Australian Domestic Season 2019/20

I can't wait to not watch the one day cup because it's being broadcast on fox rather than being streamed for free.
I just had a look on Foxtel and it's missing quite a few games. E.g only the games at Allan Border Field are shown this week with none of the WACA games being shown?

Yeah some of them are being broadcast on the CA website instead.

Qld squad for first 2 one day games

Jimmy Peirson (c), Xavier Bartlett Joe Burns, Max Bryant, Cameron Gannon, Sam Heazlett, Charlie Hemphrey, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Michael Neser, Matt Renshaw, Billy Stanlake, Mark Steketee, Jack Wildermuth
There was loads of hype on Bartlett before injuries struck.

Saw him in the u19 CWC and he was bowling 120-125 so hopefully he has more confidence and strength in his body now.

When your entire domestic 50-over structure occurs over a few weeks you shouldn't be letting anyone miss any part of it that they don't have to. Such a dumb system. Oh you have a sore finger that keeps you out for 2 weeks? No 50 over cricket for you this year!
The tournament finishes over 2 months after it starts.

Think after he did his back the first time they were messing around with his action a bit, was struggling to regain his rhythm and was down on pace as a result. Not sure he'll ever be lightning but am interested in seeing how he fares.

Feel a touch sorry for Jack Prestwidge, apparently QLD selectors told him he was going to be the squad, only for him to do a hammy in a grade game

Seen a bit of Bartlett as he practiced at the same place as Social Jnr

He was very slippery prior to doing his back the first time and allegedly getting up towards 140

Unfortunately, he has hardly been fit since that time including for the WC so is a completely unknown quantity

Back issues, the bane of any young quicks life. Sometimes (Cummins comes to mind) the bowler makes it out the other side as they age and their body strengthens, sometimes it can end careers before they ever really get going. Hopefully it is the former in Bartlett's case

Bowling action is not natural and places huge stress on body

Particularly the case with youngsters as muscle & bone density is not fully developed

Another issue is that there’s varying opinions on how best to prevent it and none are foolproof

Bowling action biomechanics very much a contentious and complex subject. There is no one size fits all model on how to bowl quick and stay fit while doing so, I am far from an expert but I generally tend to think it needs to be taken on a case by case basis

As I understand it the best way to ensure long term fitness is to bowl on restricted duties until a bloke is 23/24 years old, after which you bowl them as much as is possible, provide they have a solid action without counter- rotation.

Can only go from personal experience

Social Jnr is very quick for his age and starting to attract attention

“Experts” agree that he needs to focus upon technique but differ when it comes to workload

Expert 1: 30 balls per week maximum in practice and 5 overs on weekends

That’s it until he is fully grown

He’s 13 so that’s 10 overs per week for at least 5 years

He will be bored within a couple of weeks.

Expert 2: Bowl him until he drops and he will come back stronger

As a father, just no

Both of these coaches produced test quicks

Surely if he’s 13 he should just be enjoying bowling while working on technique?

How fast is he btw?

CA have their own guidelines which are:

Avoid bowling more than two days in a row
No more than four days in a week
1 in 4-5 weeks at 50% capacity
1 in 12 weeks off

U13 limits are
4 overs per spell
8 overs per day
16-20 overs per week

You would like to think so but some people want to complicate things

I have heard batting coaches tell juniors about the need to develop a 360 degree game when most of them struggle to play a forward defence

No idea what speed he bowls but a rep player in his team reckons that he’s the quickest in the state for his age
