At their best Johnson was 999x better. At their worst, Johnson was 999x worse

All our players in those days used to have meek and submissive personalities. Ganguly came along and some cocky players like Zaheer, Sehwag, Sreesanth and Yuvraj started getting in. It's good to have a few arrogant, annoying wankers like Kohli and Jaddu in the team.

Pretty gross behavior from Ponting. Macho alpha bullshit. Glad he's chilled out post playing career, really likeable guy these days

Srinath was such a likable bloke in that team. Lacked the killer instinct. Always got a feeling that when the match was getting away from the team, he would give in. 1996 Ahmedabad vs SA was a glorious exception and one of my favorite memories.

    Johnson wins this one though.

Johnson at his peak was a force of nature, only Holding/Akhtar/Thompson at their peaks could match him. He was a pure fast bowler, no swing/seam all gun barrel straight and fiery pace. I also feel that Phillip Hughes incident changed him a lot as a bowler.

Meh. All test match cricketers are alphas. If they weren't they wouldn't have made it or wouldn't handle it psychologically. Srinath had bowled a bouncer, Ponting had misplayed it, and Ponting had that demeanour of just wanting to get on with things, to show he wasn't fazed.

I think things have changed post Phil Hughes, but this was de riguer at the time.

Ponting was definitely a ****. There's an anecdote of him telling ABDV to piss off or something after scoring his 168*. There were various incidents with umpires as well.
