Shane Bond - How good can he be?
How good do you guys think Shane Bond can be? I reckon he might just go down as one of the best bowlers in New Zealand history the way he is going at the moment. It was good to see Ian Butler bowling well in the WEst Indies too.

Yeah, Mark Richardson was saying on the radio this morning that after facing Ahktar & Lee, Bond is right up there with them at times.
At least with Bond he has the control, unlike other quicks seen in the past that usually bowl all over the wicket (hmm...Nantie Hayward?) |

Yeah I agree, Bond has the superior control to someone like Nantie or Shoaib but he doesn't quite have the out-and-out pace of the others. He's not far off and damn he's quick enough but when guys like Shoaib and Breet say "Bugger this!", really shed their inhibitions and try to bowl REALLY quick, Bond comes up slightly short of them in the pace department.
Having said that, he is certainly VERY pacy now. Lovely smoothe action, but needs to have a little work done in his delivery stride. He gets a little too side-on, his back arches slightly and I think he might have some back problems in the future.

Yeah I think Bond knows that he's not as fast as Lee or Ahktar.
For the Pace Race, Bond mentioned that Lee will win it easily and the rest will just turn up to try and claim 2nd. Its obvious that Lee & Ahktar are easily 4 or 5 k's quicker at times than the rest, but then Bond is definately the next best with Gillespie probably. |
