He was a promising bowler initially, but Badcock just couldn’t get his length up

From 1868 to 1876, WG Grace scored 15000+ runs at an average of 57.3. There were only 6 other instances of a batsman averaging over 40 in a season in that time.
In the same 9 seasons, Grace also took over 800 wickets at an average of under 15.

Between 1866 and 1876, Grace scored 16,264 runs in first class cricket @ 56.66 with 56 centuries. Over this period, the next highest run scorer was Harry Jupp who made 11,000 runs @ 24.88 with 8 centuries and the next highest average (among regular players) was recorded by Richard Daft who made 5,379 runs @ 32.60 with 6 centuries. No one, not even Bradman, has ever achieved a greater level of dominance over their peers.

Didn't Grace once pick up the bails after being bowled, place them back on the stumps and tell the umpires to get on with the game? Cricket was in the dark ages back then so I really can't give too much credit to the 19th century legends, Grace seemed like a mob boss on the cricket circuit.

In the Aussie Shefield Shield, only 2 batsmen have averaged more than 100

Don Bradman - 62 games, 8926 runs @ 110.19
Barry Richards - 8 games, 1107 runs @ 100.09

Next best

Bill Ponsford - 43 games, 5413 runs @ 83.27

Ponsfords record making me wonder how easy was aussie pitches to bat in the 1920/30's

Yep. He was a flat-out cheat.

The Grace story is BS. At an exhibition game where a big crowd came to see him bat he carried on batting after being bowled.

Lillian Thomson is correct.

This story gets blown out of all proportion and ludicrously exaggerated. It happened once, in a charity match, where the crowd had come to see him bat.

Regarding that story, there's an interesting bit in "Wisden on Grace", from Lord Harris's comments in Grace's obituary:

"He [WG] was... just as reluctant to leave the wicket whatever his score was as was Harry Jupp, but more observant of the rules, practice and etiquette of the game than that stolid player, of whom a story was told that playing in a country match he was bowled first ball. Jupp turned round, replaced the bails and took guard again. 'Ain't you going out, Juppy?" said one of the field. 'No,' said Jupp, and he didn't."

If "Grace replacing the bails and batting on" was a well-known story back in 1916, it would seem odd for Harris to have written that.

Since I started following Ranji, some guys who spring to my mind as those who dominated Ranji but failed/did not get chance at international level.

Wasim Jaffer, Amol Muzumdar, Devendra Bundela, Amay Khurasiya, Vijay Bharadwaj, Sridharan Sharath, Pankaj Singh, Bahutule, Ananthapadmanabhan.

All of them can be nominees for ATG FC cricketer.

Surprised Siddons didn't get the token brief run in the aus side ala Law, Elliott, Di Venuto, Hodge, Love

He truly got no love

Less love than Love, that's for sure.

Absolutely ridiculous that Stewie Law only played that solitary Test btw.
