Like last season might as well just skip the off-season title and get straight into it.

CSA Conditioning squad 2019/20

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has named a squad of 28 players, outside of the CSA nationally contracted players, for a conditioning programme to prepare for selection for South Africa’s various international commitments during the 2019/20 season as well as during the current off-season

The Proteas have an away tour to India in September and October that will consist of three T20 International matches as well as three Test matches followed by home series from December to February against England (all three formats) and Australia (white ball matches) and then the visit to India for a series of ODI matches in March.

The South Africa 'A' side will also be visiting India to play their counterparts in both white and red ball cricket in August and September.

"The reality of the situation is that we no longer have an off-season and we are about to embark on an exceptionally busy period of international cricket, starting with the ICC men’s World Cup later this month," commented Corrie van Zyl, CSA Head: Cricket Pathways.

"The purpose of this squad, under the direction of SA 'A' Head Coach, Russell Domingo and SA 'A' strength and conditioning specialist, Tumi Masekela, with the assistance of the Franchise coaches, is to ensure that these players are properly prepared and optimally conditioned for international cricket.

"It is also important to let them know that they are on the radar of the National Selection Panel (NSP) for possible selection to the Proteas and SA A."

The Multiply Titans have today announced their new contracted squad for the 2019/20 season, with four new players added to the roster.

Marcello Piedt, the 26-year-old South-Western Districts seamer, highly-rated 22-year-old all-rounder Dayyaan Galiem, bowling all-rounder Matthew Arnold, and Neil Brand, the exciting University of Pretoria (TUKS) top-order batsman and slow left-arm spinner, are the new faces on the contracted list.

“The last season was tough for us, we found gaps in our system and we need to shape up for 2019/20. We have signed guys who have done very well in the semi-pro competitions. They’re exciting cricketers, I know what these guys can do and this is their reward.

“They’re up-and-coming guys who have been on the fringes, now they have the opportunity to put their hands up in franchise cricket,” expressed head coach, Mark Boucher.

“I know what to expect from these guys, it’s a good stepping-stone for them. We want to create Proteas, but when players leave for international cricket we must have cover.”

Piedt has a prolific first-class record of 187 wickets in 55 matches at an average of just 23.85, and will be eager to gain regular exposure at franchise level for the first time, having played two 50-over games for the Sky Blues on loan.

“I had a brief look at Marcello in the Momentum One-Day Cup and I was impressed with what I saw,” said Boucher.

Galiem joins the Titans from the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras, for whom he made just nine appearances in three seasons, while the 30-year-old Arnold has been given a Titans contract for the first time since 2008/9.

“Dayyaan has good stats, he’s a youngster who might find this environment rewarding and a boost for his career, while Matthew has done very well for Easterns over a number of years and did really well for us in the Momentum One-Day Cup final,” noted Boucher.

Although Brand has played just the one first-class game for the Titans, he was the leading run-scorer, man of the match in the final and player of the tournament as he led TUKS to the Varsity Cup title in 2018, repeating the exact same achievements when they won the National Club Championships in the same year. Player of the tournament in the SA Universities Week was another accolade Brand picked up.

While stalwart Albie Morkel has retired after 15 years of service to the Titans and leg-spinner Shaun von Berg has moved to the VKB Knights, internationals Chris Morris and Heino Kuhn have not been contracted full-time but will fulfil important roles on a pay-for-play basis.

Cricinfo did something very strange indeed with Shadley van Schalkwyk. For years he was listed as right arm medium-fast, yet his write up (inaccurately) referred to him as a left armer. Somebody changed his bowling style to left arm fast, I can only assume they read the little paragraph on him but have never seen him actually bowl. Somebody seems to have really got their wires crossed on that one

Still think he is seriously mediocre tbh

I honestly hadn't noticed that. Basically polar opposite. Probably best suited in limited overs cricket with his slower balls but he is a limited due to the lack of pace. I have seen him swing it and seam it on ocassion so it does make you wonder if that is what he does with red ball.

Still waiting on confirmation of the other 4 contracted squads but we know Burger (Lions to Cobras) & Second (Knights to Warriors) have been other transfers.

Morne van Wyk & Mthokozisi Shezi have retired from Dolphins. Dolphins have got Mosehle from Lions to replace Morne who is now the coach at St Charles school in Pietermaritzburg.

Good to see this happening.

You would have almost certainly seen more of him than I have but that is always the impression I got. Handy enough in limited overs with an assortment of cutters and wobblers, but ultimately never going to trouble good batsman.

Knights attack in general looks pretty crap with Olivier gone now. They probably need the younger guys like Coetzee and Jansen to really stand up

Will always remember Shezi because he randomly played an ODI for some reason

SA Emerging squad facing Sri Lanka at home this time. Assume the guys in the enlarged A squad will be here than in the A squad ?

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday announced the dates and squad for the South African Emerging Squad's upcoming series against their Sri Lanka counterparts in Pretoria and Potchefstroom from 29 June – 28 July.

The emerging side will take on their sub-continent counterparts in an extended One-Day triangular series also featuring a University Sports South Africa (USSA) side before the two teams lock horns in two four-day matches.

The majority of the matches will be played in Pretoria, at the Groenkloof Oval and the Tuks Oval, while Senwes Park in Potchefstroom will be host to the opening four-day game.

The SA Emerging squad is made up of players from the CSA National Academy, which is a programme running in a three-year cycle, aimed at the successful transition of players from senior provincial cricket into professional and international cricket.

“This programme is a hugely important part of the CSA development pipeline,” commented Vincent Barnes, CSA High Performance Manager. “We’ve approached the programme and the subsequent fixtures holistically, keeping in mind our long-term goal of improving our selection pool, producing quality, professional cricketers and possible future Proteas.

“The National Academy provides a pathway for the development of the players, with the likes of Tony de Zorzi, Sinethemba Qeshile and Raynard van Tonder having all represented the SA U19s recently and have since been a part of the National Academy, going on to breaking through in franchise cricket.

“We are very excited to be hosting Sri Lanka’s emerging side, having played them in the sub-continent last year and we are sure there will be just as much competitive cricket on display, particularly with the USSA side also involved,” Barnes concluded.

That is actually a very good squad.
Well balanced. Some future Test and ODI stars. Probably lacks out-and-out pace strike-bowlers but we fine there with KG, Lungi, Anrich and Daryn.

Really want Smith & Galiem to kick on and become middle-order limited overs options who can clear the ropes & bowl a few overs of seam.

No real surprises. Again a young squad. Mosehle clearly only signing for KZN Coastal if he is going to Durban.

https://www.sacricketmag.com/dolphins-retain-three-proteas-on-contract-list/

Proteas all-rounder Robbie Frylinck and batsmen Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Khaya Zondo have retained Dolphins contracts for the 2019-20 season, while wicketkeeper-batsman Morne van Wyk and seamer Mthokozisi Shezi have retired from franchise cricket.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Dane Vilas, meanwhile, will remain in the United Kingdom after the 2019 County Championship with Lancashire.

‘We must firstly thank the outgoing players for all that they have done for the Dolphins franchise over the years,’ said KwaZulu-Natal Cricket chief executive officer Heinrich Strydom.

‘Morne has been a vital member of the side for a number of years and has been an example for younger players coming through the system. His professionalism and passion for the game and the Dolphins brand are traits we hope all our players can emulate.

‘Shezi has also contributed hugely to KZN Cricket and has been part of the bowling attack for many seasons. The knowledge that he has been able to pass on to the younger players is invaluable.

‘Dane has been with us for two seasons and he has been the ultimate team player. Always putting the team first and contributing hugely with the bat and behind the stumps.

‘These players are going to be missed and we wish them the best for the future.’

Batsman Marques Ackerman, wicketkeeper-batsman Grant Roelofsen, and seamers Daryn Dupavillon and Keith Dudgeon have been afforded contracts.

‘We are hugely excited about the young players that have moved into the slots that have been left open,’ added Strydom.

‘Marques proved that he is ready for franchise cricket. Grant is an exciting wicketkeeper-batsman who has scored plenty of runs for Inland and Keith has been the most consistent bowler for the Coastal side.

‘It’s also great to have Daryn back in the mix especially after his run of injuries. He showed his impressive pace and ability when drafted back into the Dolphins side at the end of the season. We are excited to see all of these players contribute next season.’

Thanks mate. Rory is a good bloke. I'm sure he will be trying to catch some Nerwcastle games when the football season resumes.

Some unfortunate news came through in recent days that Johnny Kleinveldt (Rory's uncle) who was a successful cricketer during isolation passed away.

Nice interviews with SA u19 captain Bryce Parsons. Think he is one to seriously watch.

Bryce Parsons ? TAG Foundation

A more recent one than the above.

Bryce Parsons has been appointed as the captain of the South Africa under-19s ahead of their home tour against Pakistan after several standout performances in his first tour against India earlier this year.

The impressive all-rounder will lead a squad of 15 in a seven-match Youth One-Day International (ODI) series taking place in Pietermaritzburg and Chatsworth between June 22 and July 7.

The 18-year old made his SA U19s debut in the first Youth Test match in the team's tour to India in February before going on to feature in the second Test. He subsequently earned four more caps in South Africa’s third-place finish during the quadrangular Youth ODI series that included India U19 'A', 'B' and Afghanistan.

Despite being one of only three players who played every match in the tour of the subcontinent, Parsons expressed his surprise at the appointment but is already looking forward to the series and helping his side achieve its targets.

"It's obviously a massive privilege to captain my country in this upcoming tour against Pakistan," the youngster said.

"I am pretty shocked to be captain because I didn't think I'd get it but I am grateful for this opportunity that has come to hand. I am just going to try lead from the front and set a good example for the team, try to add to the team culture and help everyone get ready for the games.

"As a team, we really want to win the series, to bounce back from what happened in India. Personally, I just want to lead well. It's going to be my first tour as captain, so I want to do well and hopefully win the series."

In India, Parsons shone thanks to his all-round ability with bat and ball. He scored 239 runs, including two half-centuries and a six-wicket haul (6/77) in the longer format before adding a further seven wickets to his tally in the Youth ODI matches at an average of 18.42.

The King Edwards VII School matriculant and First XI skipper is relishing the added responsibility that captaincy will bring and is focused on leading through his performances to inspire his team-mates.

"Most players love the extra challenges in the game, and I am no different," Parsons added. "I just want to take this challenge (of captaincy) in my stride and lead from the front with the players. If you are doing well as a captain, the whole team will have confidence. I just have to focus on doing what I do best and then try and lead the team."

With the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020 on the forefront of the team's preparations, Parsons believes that a tight team spirit will do well for team's chances in the upcoming series against Pakistan.

"It's really important to for the coaching staff and myself that we stick together as a team, in good times and in bad, that's most important," he explained.

"If everyone is there for each other with no individuals or players playing for themselves, we'll all pull through and do enough to get selected for this team and represent it well. We have a lot of experienced guys who've gone to India and have seen the challenges that lie ahead."

SA U19s head coach, Lawrence Mahatlane shared his thoughts on the appointment of Parsons, saying:

"Bryce is a very special player. He was the U17 Cricketer of the Year in 2017 and the Khaya Majola Week Cricketer of the Year last year as a grade 11 pupil, so his cricket pedigree is very good. He was also outstanding in India. So, as a leader, this is an opportunity for him to keep standing up and showing his leadership qualities.

"He's also captained his school side this year and various age-group sides over the years. It will be good to watch how he captains the SA U19s and I am quite excited to watching him share the way he thinks about the game, with the whole squad."

Good to see EP's Tiaan Van Vuuren back after a serious injury. Left-arm swing bowler who hits the cricket ball hard.

They will probably get an extra batsman in there. Other players are Andrew Louw (Free State) , Akeem Minnaar (Boland), Khanya Cotani (North West) & Imraan Philander (WP). Think Louw is a batsman & Minnaar/Cotani are keepers.
