    Australian Domestic off-season 2019

Thought this thread was a touch overdue

What we more or less all expected has been confirmed, Victoria have cut Cameron White from their list. Personally I think it is a real shame, feel he still could have had a couple of seasons left in him, it's unfortunate to be losing a good hardened veteran like him from the domestic scene.

Sam Elliot, son of Matthew, will likely get a rookie contract. Unlike his old man he's a pace bowler, from what I have heard he bowls at a decent clip

Will White get snapped up by anyone else? or is it sadly the end of the road for him?

At First Class level, it is indeed almost certainly the end, he is a pretty proud Vic and didn't seem that interested in looking elsewhere. The Big Bash is a different matter however, he will probably be back there. Heard talks around the traps here in Adelaide that the Strikers are in serious negotiations in bringing him over in a player/coach role

    SACA contract list announced

All in all a touch underwhelming imo, nothing but a bit of tinkering around the edges. All in all they have stuck with more or less the same batting lineup, a lot of players really need to raise their game to avoid a repeat of last season. Henry Hunt a decent get though, been in the runs at Futures level, from what little I've seen he looks a pretty solid well organised batsman. Bowling looks decent enough, bit of a surprise seeing WAgar back but realistically he wasn't going to get much of a look in again at Victoria without a hell of a lot of injuries. With how much Sayers/Worrall have be injured recently, I wouldn't rule out a couple of our younger quicks being given game time. If he's fit they really should look to get Spencer Johnson playing a few games imo

CA contracts: Alex Carey, Travis Head, Adam Zampa

Full contracts: Wes Agar, Tom Andrews, Tom Cooper, John Dalton, Callum Ferguson, David Grant, Jake Lehmann, Conor McInerney, Joe Mennie, Harry Nielsen, Patrick Page Jnr, Kane Richardson, Luke Robins, Alex Ross, Chadd Sayers, Cameron Valente, Jake Weatherald, Nick Winter, Daniel Worrall

Rookie contracts: Jacob Dickman, Henry Hunt, Spencer Johnson, Tim Oakley, Lloyd Pope, Ben Pengelley

Speaking of Worrall, he has gone down with back stress fractures. Damn, really feel for the bloke.

Looks like the lineup for another fitting last-place finish.

Wes Agar. Why. Bloke bowls far less heat than he lets on.

Such a conservative list eh. Why did Robins get a full gig but Pope stays on the rookie list? Batting is very light too.

Agar was pretty impressive back in U19s, but his development has by and large flatlined since then. Can tend to bowl half a foot too short on occasion, can be quite expensive.

Pope is an interesting one, had a really strong back end to the grade season for the Browns, hopefully he can continue to further his game with the red ball. Can be prone to trying to do too much on occasion, can overdo it with the wrong'un. now that he's out of the underage set up and has a better balance of cricket to play.

Typical SACA really, hardly doing anything about the batting when it was clearly well short of the standard required. Stale administration produces stale results.

What can you do though, if the talent isn't there? You can headhunt for imports I guess but that's not always successful and dropping experienced batsmen that aren't quite as good as you want for grade batsmen that are almost certainly even worse won't help.

Yeah, pretty much, someone like C00ps is a good example of this. Has a tendency to have long lean spells only to make runs just as his spot is on the line. Frustrating as all hell, but it is unlikely that anyone else locally could do a consistently better job so he stays on.

In completely unrelated news, Alister McDermott has risen from the grave and back on to the Queensland list. ITSTL

Bloke is the first proper wicket-taking tweaker SA's seen for years. Can clearly bowl at FC level, wrap him in a full contract and resources or they'll lose him, personally. SACA has a history of not supporting dudes who spin up.

No side where the top two run-scorers only just breached 500 runs for the season should be challenging for anything other than wooden spoon.

Personally they had to make a hard call on one or both of Ferguson or Cooper and use the cash saved to lure someone to SA. Both young and credentialled enough to get as gig elsewhere, perhaps a well-paid one in England. Instead, they've retained them both. Very conservative.

Absolutely I agree, as you said Pope has clearly shown himself to be a genuine strike bowler, capable of being very dangerous indeed at FC level. Definitely a player worth investing in long term, but he needs to be managed well in the immediate future. Tend to agree a full contract was probably worthwhile.

Yeah, cant believe Pope doesnt have a full time contract. You need to make a player like him feel loved.

Pretty happy (I think) the one day format is changing this summer.
