Guys, something a bit different here. I am helping a programmer produce a computer simulation of test cricket. Its along the lines of the game you use for your leagues on this forum, but a lot more in depth and you can "watch" the action unfold ball by ball with TMS/cricinfo style commentary.

The game is about 75% complete but the programmer wants to add a bit more flavour to the players than just their averages by inputting stuff about their style of batting, bowling and any specialist field positions.

I have spread sheets of players through the decades and my task is to fill in whatever I can find on test players since WW2. Obviously we are not expecting to profile every single player but will take any info we can get.

So I wondered if anyone would be willing to spare a couple of hours putting some notes and stuff on the spreadsheet if you know about players? Maybe you specialise in current players, or ones from the 80s, or just Indian ones? But any help would be hugely appreciated and I thought this would be good place to ask!

Thanks for reading and hope to hear from a few of you, cheers!

What is the kind of data you're looking for? I hope you have the list of wicketkeepers and the segregation of bowlers into pace and spin?

Also, I think for the sim it's better to use some kind of standardised averages rather than raw average.

Really just what type of batsman they are (classical, normal, brute, poor) in terms of the way they play their shots, any specialist fielding positions and what type of bowler, so if a spinner, do they bowl a lot of googlies or arm balls, if they are pace bowlers do they bowl outswing or inswing mainly, or are they aggressive, lots of bouncers and short stuff?

That type of thing,

Make a google sheet that anyone can access, link it here and half the forum will probably chip in with a bit of info here and there over time

Great idea, I'll do that when I have the full sheet from the programmer. Maybe start off with current players as a trial. Thank you!

Me too. Maybe there's a measure that could be placed to keep trolls away. Dunno what though
