CricketWeb decides the Greatest Players Post World War I

It's about time he hits a triple in tests you'd think?
Not really. Scoring triple hundreds depend on a lot of factors. One should either get a really weak opponent, a opportune moment when there is an insane amount of time left in the match or an eye purely on personal milestone. When Kohli scored his double hundreds against Eng or Bangladesh, his intention was to cut loose after 200, he got out in 230s I think.

The way he approaches games, I don't think he will score a triple hundred. Won't matter to him as long as the team does well.

I may have misread it.

But I translate #5 to someone with immense levels of concentration to get on board the 300+ train.

I wrote motivation, not concentration. That translates to turning up for match after match, scoring a lot of hundreds against quality opposition.

Insane levels of fitness and energy I was referring to :)

Choo choo
That's a foolish line of argument to be honest.

Didn't Jonty Rhodes have insane levels of fitness and energy? Was he fitter than Chris Gayle or was he not? How many triples did Jonty score?

Would be more interested if we made a list about the greatest cricketers across formats.
Most underrated ODi cricketers

Brian Lara - no one dominated batting rankings consistently like Lara. Probable exception Viv Richards.
Brian Lara deserves to be rated as joint best batsman of 90s at least. He was the highest rated batsman of 6 years out of 10.

Kapil Dev - greatest allrounder. Best batsman among world class bowlers.
Dominated AR rankings for an entire decade.
Consistently featured among top 20 batsmen and top 5 / 10 bowlers. Significant World Records in both departments.
Only cricketer in the history to get rated as best batsman , best bowler and best fielder of the team.( And best captain too)

I haven't got a sophisticated database to actually quantify this. I meant as a rough guideline for those who did.

Just went through the thread and counted the number of times a player was posted. Didn't count players who were seconded as it was hard to decipher with some posts.

International Coach
You left out David Boon.

I was serious about that, but, obviously greatness being based on being a 'legend', rather than stats based. Boonie was the struggler who became the best bat in the world, before Tendulkar and Lara took over. Boonie was the guy who made short-whatever a fielding position that was valued, rather than where you put the new guy because no one wanted to field there. Rubbish bins across Australia have been named after him. He had his own Boonie doll. He holds the record for flight beers. He made tubby people everywhere proud. He had a real moustache. He is no Bradman but Boonie has a different aspect of greatness about him. If you only want an ability based list leave him off. If you want to encompass more than ability alone, he is worth at least making the initial cut.

Cricketer Of The Year
Nominate CK Nayudu & Nawab jnr.

Doubt they'll make the final cut though, but massively influential Indian cricketers nonetheless.
