Most Famous Cricketer You've Played With/Against?

Hi all,

Just wondered what standard of Cricket you guy's play at and who's the most famous Cricketer you have either played with or against. Basically i'm 17 and i play in the Leicestershire Premier League. It just got me thinking about it all because on Saturday I played against Sri Lankan Kaushalya Weeraratne (http://aus.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/PLAYERS/SL/W/WEERARATNE_K_08010412/) and he smacked 70 odd and then opened the bowling and bowled well. Then on Sunday i played against 3 Indian First-Class Cricketers in Rajeev Nayyar (http://www.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/PLAYERS/IND/N/NAYYAR_R_06007890/) , Vishal Bhatia (http://www.cricinfo.com/db/PLAYERS/IND/B/BHATIA_V_06044881/) and Anshuman Bhagawati(http://uk.cricinfo.com/db/PLAYERS/IND/B/BHAGAWATI_AN_06008906/).

Most famous player i have played with is probably Gus MacKay (http://aus.cricinfo.com/db/PLAYERS/ZIM/M/MACKAY_AJ_09007431/) with Darren Stevens (http://aus.cricinfo.com/db/PLAYERS/ENG/S/STEVENS_DI_01004677/) coming second. I played with Stevens on Saturday as he was dropped from the Leicestershire 1st Team so he decided he wanted to go and play a game of Premier Division League Cricket, he went on to smack 154. Class player. And i've also played against Graham Wagg.

Let us all know some of the players you have all played against or with. I think it's interesting.

Cheers,
Lee

The best player ive played against is Naved Arif (http://uk.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/PLAYERS/PAK/N/NAVED_ARIF_07045063/) who plays 1st class cricket in Pakistan and played for Pool in the Aire-Wharfe League a few years ago. He got 7 for 26! When I was about 12 I scored in a 75th anniversary match for our club where both Ijaz Ahmed (http://uk.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/PLAYERS/PAK/I/IJAZ_AHMED_07001860/) and Arnie Sidebottom (http://uk.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/PLAYERS/ENG/S/SIDEBOTTOM_A_01001780/) were on the other side. Ijaz only got 11 but both of them got some wickets.

I cannot be bothered to get their cricinfo profiles.. but here goes...

Grant Elliot played for the Highveld Strikers (he is on Cricket 2004) and South Africa A.. he used to play for my club occasionaly so Ive faced him a bit....

Im coached by DS Breakwell (ex Northants and Somerset) and HRJ Trump (Somerset)

Ive netted with JC Hildreth, T Webley (Somerset) and Keagan Africa (SA Under 19's)

Also played with Jimmy Adams and Nixon McLean, although it was a muckabout not a proper match...

Leicestershire ECB Prem? Good effort

As for me... erm... England U19 ladies' captain Salliann Briggs is the best I can claim.

I once got coached by Keith Dudgeon in Brisbane when I was about 10 (he played for QLD in the sixties I think)....Vinothen John(ex Sri lanka bowler) used to help us under 13's when I played at St Annes CC (a few years before Flintoff did).

And I work in the same building as Richard McCarthy who used to play for Victoria in the mid 80's(I think he once got Steve Waugh out) and played for Yorkshire Cricket Board XI a couple of years ago in the C&G Trophy...when I get drunk and see him out I always ask drunken questions about what it was like to bowl to Waugh or Boon etc.

So I guess I have played with no-one famous :D

My mate once hooked one of the Strang brothers(cant remember who the faster bowler is ) for 6 whilst playing in the Lancashire League, and also faced Gillespie and a few others as well.

Oh my dad got caught out by Carole Hodges (ex ENgland womens captain) whilst he was playing for St Annes 4th team

Bryan is the faster bowler, albeit only medium pace, while Paul is the leg-spinner formerly of Kent and Notts.

My current coach is Robert Samuels(former Jamaica and WI player). Also, Simon Jackson who is a former Ja U-19 captain used to play at my school and i almost got into a game with him but it was the semifinals so they wanted the more senior guys to play.Could play with him in a few seasons of club cricket from now.

Alec Stewart

Bowled a couple of deliveries at him, when I visited the Oval a few years back and found him training. :)

I have recieved batting advice from Sam Loxton who played with Bradman in the famous 1948 tour.

But that's about all. Unless I move to Sydney, I might be able to bowl to somebody who has made it to FC level or above in the nets...

I was 15 or 16 at the time, went to the indoor nets at Notts and had the opportunity of bowling to the greatest cricketer the world's ever seen.

<quack> Not Rikki Clarke?

No, Garfield Sobers.

So you didn't actually bowl against him? It doesn't count if you didn't.
