Divide the 18-team county championship into into two conferences,
Southern Cricket Conference (SCC) and Northen Cricket Conference (NCC), each with 9 teams,
further divided into 3 divisions of three teams each.

Two Conferences

Southern
West & Wales South East South Central

Glamorgan Hampshire Surrey
Gloucester Kent Middlesex
Somerset Sussex Essex
Northern
Midlands North Midlands North

Northampton Derbyshire Durham
Warwickshire Leicestershire Lancashire
Worcester Nottinghamshire Yorkshire

Each team plays the other two teams in its own division twice and 6 games against teams from the other divisions.
This means you play every team in the other divisions.(Home and Away over 5 years)

The 3 division winners from each conference (the team in each division with the best overall record),
are seeded 1 through 3 based on their overall won-lost-tied record.
One runner up qualifier from each conference (the team with the best overall records of all remaining teams in the conference),

If win/draw/loss points and/or and bonus points are level the ECB and/or Duckworth/Lewis type mathematician will have to come up with a formula
(before the season starts, of course) to act as the tie breaker to determine division winners and best placed runners up.

Conference Semi-finals
G1. Number 1 seed division winner v Best Runner up. Two matches home and away
G2. Number 2 seed division winner v Number 3 seed division winner. " " " " "

At the end of the two games the scores will be one of the following:
2 wins winner obviously moves on to the next game
1 win 1 draw winner of the one game moves on to the next game
1 win each/2 draws the team with the most bonus batting/bowling points moves on to the next game.
If bonus points are level the ECB will act as the tie breaker.

Conference Finals
Winner of G1 V Winner of G2
Winners move on to represent their respective conference in the Grand Final.

Grand Final
Southern Conference champions V Northern Conference Champions. Two games home and away with option of third game.

If at the end of the two games teams are level:
A third game is played and if that is drawn and bonus points are level refer to the ECB.

Any thoughts?

If all of the tie break options are exhausted in the home-away finals matches, wouldn’t the top seeded team going into that series go through/ win the title?

Maximum Number of games is 16 at the moment it is 14 so not really tiring. The idea is to have 10 games to get up to speed and then you get the cut throat of the playoffs like the NFL. So within those ten regular games it would be up to the teams to find a way or rest players where necessary.

I am sure the ECB/mathematicians can come up with something remember we have duckworth lewis for one day games.

My idea which I will expand on is for both the regular games and postseason games would be 5day games to try and ensure that there are results and cover the fact that the UK has its` fair share of rain.
