Latest Review into Australian Cricket

The report says that CA is partly responsible for the players cheating in the test match against South Africa.
Hopefully this would lead to reducing the bans on the three players to the time that they have already served,

Yeah the report does lay a big past of the blame at the feet of Cricket Australia. It also implies that the bans were excessive and that there was no parallel corporate discipline, despite CA being a huge part of the cultural problem.

The report is laid out in a very modern form-over-function fashion. Could've shed a good 20 pages or more.

Page 29 talks about how CA has a culture which prevents people from speaking up. It's not hard to disagree when you have Maxwell being fined for saying he wanted to bat higher in the order.

In other news, the world's worst kept secret:

Concerns about the integrity of pitches followed claims in the review that senior administrators in Australia had sought to influence preparation of surfaces to ensure they were more batter-friendly and conducive to high scores, thereby ensuring matches did not finish prematurely.
"Indeed, we have received direct and specific evidence of at least one senior CA official issuing just such a directive," the report says.

Errrgggh. Probably the worst revelation of all tbh. Not seeming to intervene on pitches to help their side win like other countries do, just want to make the game last. No wonder our bowlers are injured all the time.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if there was at some point a directive to a certain ball manufacturer to make their product even more ****, but I doubt that'll ever come out.

But those roads are our strength if only our bowlers are good enough to take wickets on them (bizarre South Africa green tops excepted).

The reason provided isn't a cricketing one tho. Just seems that they want games to last longer for the sake of the broadcasters they give multi-million dollar contracts to. The pitches actually suiting the side are a happy consequence

The players simply adapt to the conditions they spend most of their time playing in. If the decks rolled out are mostly of a certain character, they find a way to play on them and prosper in order to get selected. It's self-fulfilling.

I don't think they really do suit Aus though. Hard bouncy fast decks would. You can have hard/bouncy/fast roads but a lot of what Aus have been dishing up have been slow **** roads.

Yeah it really reveals their priorities. We talk about the BCCI being money hungry but they have no issue getting groundsmen to prepare pitches that only last three days if it helps them win series.

As if everyone didn't know already, Peever is an idiot. The whole point of getting a review like this is to give you an excuse to reduce the ridiculous sentences handed down to the players. You don't double down on the bans, "accept responsibility" and do nothing while the national team burns in the humiliating fire of a loss to India at home.

He's running CA for himself, basically.

There's bits throughout the report about how they've prioritised money-making (you can say by extension detrimental things like the new TV deal), well it's on him.

Especially that part on recommending players excusing themselves from t20is for domestic cricket which CA have rejected because of 'broadcasting obligations.'

I bet all 20 folks watching the Pakistan t20 series would have suffered if we didn't have the cream of our crop playing.

Yep. And it's turned people off the sport who don't have the financial means to get Foxtel. Alienating the very fans it's supposed to be servicing.

And we still could have fielded a decent strength T20 side with Lynn, Tye, Finch, Carey and other players who have a secure test spot or don't play first class cricket.
