Poor old Bruce Reid. If he stayed on the park more often, he'd probably be in the top 50. It is at this point that I should say that bowlers lose points if they have less than 50 innings overall, or less than 25 innings non-home or vs. quality opposition.

Hmm, yeah it could be complicated. But it makes more sense to consider quality of bowling attack when judging batsmen and quality of batting lineup when judging bowlers. A team with a great bowling lineup may in theory be a mediocre team if the batting is terrible but that shouldn't mean performances against that attack should be rated lower.

You did have a "current rating" for bowling attacks which you use in the top rated batting performances list don't you?
It makes more sense than you think at first glance, because if your batting lineup has just piled on the runs, then when you come on to bowl you've got a massive advantage compared to if you got bowled out for double figures.

Playing well against strong overall teams means your performance was more likely to count for more in terms of match and series situation, as well as things like available strategies, confidence, pressure, etc.

Interesting start. Im loving the gold performances feature.

The overall/peak/away averages dont interest me so much but the quality opposition average does.

I was debating beforehand whether to keep the quality opposition stat or change it out to the top 50% oppostion.

For one thing, more 19th century bowlers from England would be on the list. If you refer to the TEST TEAM RATINGS excel doc on the second post you will see that Australia didn’t become a quality oppostion until 1899.

Conversely, there are many more teams rated 100.00 or above in the 21st century.

However, if a bowler played all his matches against minnows then half of them would still count.

Interesting dilemma.
