The Proteas' Inaugural Test

It is now more than a quarter of a century since the South Africa was readmitted to Test cricket. In this feature Martin looks back at a fascinating match that, for a while, threatened one of the biggest shocks in the history of the game

A well crafted piece as always Fred. It was interesting to find out inter-island rivalries were still prevalent in the Windies up until the early 90's.

Perhaps they had come back to the fore as WI weren't quite the side that they had been. Less excuse for inter-island bickering when they were comfortably beating everyone.

That may very well be true. It's just rather crazy to hear the people of Barbados were boycotting attending the Test because of the non-selection of Andy Cummins of all people!

I remember following that Test match through news reports. If there was one bowling partnership you'd pick to defend a fourth innings target for your life, it would probably be Ambrose and Walsh.

I really wish there was more good footage of Tertius Bosch bowling in existence. He looked to have some serious wheels.

Tertius Bosch was comfortably the fastest bowler he saw the past three decades, says De Villiers

His sons hopefully can follow in their fathers footsteps.

Corbin was bowling with some wheels last season and Eathan bowls with effortless speed with his long levers.

Vinnige Fanie talking about Tertius here. Would have been fun to rank the fastest in SA at that time. Donald, Schultz, Bosch - Snell, Jack , de Villiers, Bryson weren't to slow themselves.
