Australian Domestic Season 2018/19

How do you guys feel about Ashton Agar's situation right now?

He keeps making Australian squads but doesnt make the XIs.

This has meant that he has had 1 bat (faced 23 balls) and bowled 5 overs in the past 2 months. In the past 4 weeks, he hasnt played which is so dire for a young guy with promise.
Yet another victim of Andy Bichel syndrome

Personally, it’s a little different but maybe I’m splitting hairs. Bichel found his level dominating with QLD but wasn’t good enough for a Test gig unless he was really bowling well whereas Agar, the sense is he’s got the game for Tests but is still a project player. Fair?

Heh, thinking of Bichel reminded me of how badly Reiffel used to get treated. Anyone else remember when he was Australia A’s best bowler in the quad series they played in so he ‘graduated’ to the top side for the finals who then promptly made him 12th? High. Larious.

Yeah fair point, I see what you mean. To be honest I wasn't really thinking that deeply, more just that Bichel springs to mind everytime I think of anyone spending time as a perennial 12th man.

Those quad series featuring Australia A were brilliant, such excellent depth in Australian cricket those days

Yeah from memory they had Hayden, Langer, Ponting and Martyn batting for Aus A in that series.

Then Taylor had a sook about it so we never got another series like that.

Blewett's knocks for Aus A got him the Test gig over all those guys too.

Nothing has changed in CA. Early returns would not place "undue" pressure on the players. It would merely repair some of the damage that the incredible overreaction has done to their careers.
Yep, the sanctimonious attitude is still there. If CA had any balls they'd put it out there that they were wrong and attack the hysterical media reaction that lead to it in the first place.

It's times like these I'd use a time machine to go back to 2012 just before Wade debuted and tell myself, "The good news is, he'll be around for the next six years. The bad news is, Tim Paine will be captain and keeper and Wade will be our no.5 bat smack between the guy who just averaged 2.67 in the latest test series and his younger brother."

That's never going to work.

I kinda disagree with most on here now. Unfortunately, they need to serve out their bans. There's no other way

How the **** did Tremain and Holland ever get selected at national level? Holland especially looks utterly innocuous. Why don't they play Wade as a specialist bat?

Weird time to pick on Tremain given he took 5/13 in the first innings of the game that finished yesterday.

Given he's never been in the Test squad I actually think he's been slightly unlucky too -- definitely a better bowler than a host of others who have been selected ahead of him IMO, some of whom even actually ended up playing.

Oh wow. Wasn't aware. Looks like he sprays it all over the place. Weird action too but doesn't matter if it works. Holland's ****e though.

Yeah bit harsh on Tremain given he's far better than Doggett, Neser and Siddle who were all selected on the last tour. Probably better than Starc too atm.

Tremain isn't that accurate but he doesn't spray it much, if any more than say, Starc normally (let alone Doggett ftm). Though I remember he was pretty dire on his BBL debut, he's come on immensely as a bowler over the past few years.

Never been completely sold on Tremain myself, but you can't argue with the results. He has always struck me as somewhat of a rhythm bowler, a lot depends on how well he gets through his action as to how he bowls.

And I genuinely don't think picking Neser was a mistake at all

Victoria and SA basically have the pacers alone to fill Aus A and B anyway. Neser basically got selected because he reversed a few dukes balls.

Plus Jhye Richardson who transcends any need for Aus A and B
