Battle of the English batting capitulations (2010s)

Collapsing to God-mode Stuart Broad on a green wicket is one thing, but collapsing to Hardik Pandya on a not-so-green wicket is another. Getting bowled out for 58 on a pitch on which Henry Nichols can score a century is just dire. In reply to the currently existing thread for Australia, let's see what England have been up to in the same period:

2018 Auckland 1st innings 10/52
2012 Abu Dhabi 2nd innings 10/51
2018 Nottingham 1st innings 10/105
2015 Lord's 2nd innings 10/91 including 7/52.
2017 Perth 1st innings 6/35
2017 Brisbane 2nd innings 6/58
2017 Nottingham 1st innings 7/68
2017 Nottingham 2nd innings 10/133 including 5/11.
2016 Centurion 2nd innings 10/99
2016 Mirpur 2nd innings 8/59
2014 Leeds 1st innings 6/54
2016 Visakhapatman 2nd innings 10/71
2016 Chennai 2nd innings 10/104 including 8/76 and 6/15.
2013 Brisbane 1st innings 8/54
2013 Brisbane 2nd innings 7/39
2013 Adelaide 1st innings 6/24
2013 Melbourne 2nd innings 10/114 including 5/6.
2014 Sydney 1st innings 5/23
2012 Dubai 1st innings 8/80
2010 Perth 2nd innings 10/100 including 6/42.
2013 Bridgetown 2nd innings 10/112
2012 Galle 2nd innings 6/31
2010 Oval 2nd innings 7/28
2011 Nottingham 1st innings 6/51
2013 Lord's 2nd innings 6/54
2013 Nottingham 1st innings 6/37
2015 Leeds 1st innings 7/57
2015 Dubai 1st innings 7/36
2015 Sharjah 2nd innings 10/125 including 6/25.
2016 Mumbai 2nd innings 6/15

Further suggestions welcome. Vote at the end of the decade.

Also 2nd innings Lord's 2014. Not such a bad collapse but self destructing to Ishant Sharma short balls has a place all on its own.

Probably 2013 Brisbane first innings. I thought they'd restricted Australia to a pretty mediocre score and got off to a good start themselves. They'd won the last 3 Ashes series and seemed to have the wood over Australia a bit, mentally. Then Mitch Johnson happened.

More an example of lower order resilience than capitulation, I would say. Let's see how India bat on this track.

I'm only going by the standard set in the previous thread. If you don't like it then blame Spikey not me.

Are we living in the best era for lollapses? Pakistan, Australia, England, WI, India, SL - all have done it multiple times in the past year.

South Africa had a few golden ones in Sri Lanka too.

It's a golden era for sure. Hard to think of a side that is generally collapse proof. New Zealand perhaps? Even then it's helped by not having too many big away tours recently.

India's worst collapse of the year:

- Southampton first innings. Pujara helped us eke out a tiny lead at the end along with Nos. 10 and 11, but it wasn't substantial enough to cancel out the disadvantage of batting last. Collapsing from 140-odd for 2 to 190-8 was terrible and eventually cost us the game.

India batted rather poorly all year, but there weren't many noticeable "collapses" as such. Mostly because the openers were so laughably dire that we were under pressure to begin with, and swimming upstream for the entire innings all the time.

I think among all the Test playing countries, India's openers were the worst by a big margin, until Agarwal came in to lend some respectability. Shaw bullied WI but got injured for the Australia series.

Rahul, Vijay and Dhawan had an absolute nightmare of a year and going forward, I think this is the biggest issue for India to fix if they want to do better on their next overseas cycle.
