It is definitely something some teams favour more than other teams. No doubt it comes down to the captain and coach's philosophy on it, and if the captain is a middle order bat as against a top order bat.Probably because the Kiwis have realised that sending in a night watchman is good for the bowling side.

KW prolly has less interest in it as a number 3, than perhaps say BMac did as a #5. In the Vettori era - he just took on everything himself, so it was hard to know if he was playing as a batsman or as a nightwatchman. He was one of our best batsman for most his captaincy.
