Mick Slater - excitement machine

Shaun Tait - never sure if the ball was going to hit the batsman, square-leg umpire or you.

State Vice-Captain
Was waiting for a Calypso XI. Kudos!

Curious what you think about Holding and Ambrose.
From a variety of matches :

Holding was scheduled to play, but for some reason did not turn up. What would I do just to see him run-up.

Ambrose and Bishop were a formidable duo. Amby scattering stumps with missile like yorkers. In one match, the batsman stepped out and flayed a ball destined for the maximum. Amby jumped high and with his long hands literally plucked the ball from the sky. Sent the crowd into raptures.

Kanhai delighted crowd with reverse shots - a rarity at the time.

Lloyd caressed his way into a century with ease. Then he stepped out to drive Intikhab, beaten by some variety of LBG and Engineer had the bails off in a flash.

Sobers, awkward in gait, yet at the crease loose and lissome. He was bowled by Gavaskar - who pumped his hands skyward in delight at such a valuable wicket. Fluke, methinks, but I'm sure SMG will argue otherwise. After all, he did get Zaheer Abbas out in a Test for 96 thereby denying him a century in each innings.

Seen live XI

Sehwag (big hundred in '04 vs the Aussies)
G. Smith * (in a WC game)
Dravid (Test in '04/ also in IPL)
Tendulkar (2 runs in a 2011 WC match/ worked with him on his biopic)
Pietersen (in a test in '08)
Flintoff (same game)
Gilchrist + (saw him keep wickets in '04)
Warne (test in '04/ also in IPL)
Steyn (in a WC match)
Lillee (saw him in a bar with a beer in his hand)
McGrath (in '04 in a test)

I once saw Jeff Thomson eating mashed potatoes for breakfast and on another occasion saw M.Waugh in an elevator. If they can replace McGrath and Dravid then i have a full on flamboyant XI.

Border was excitement plus because everything hinged on him not getting out.
Muesli because first it was about is the umpire going to call him and then because magician and eyes.

I like Muesli too, but it isn’t that exciting imho.

The omission of TOTAB on my part was deliberate, because the great man, whilst the ultimate entertainer, cared not for flamboyance and was all business. As it should be.

As another one of those true cricket fans who rank all cricketers in order from no.2 onwards permanently reserving the top spot for the one and only captain grumpy, I agree with Burgey here. We are choosing a team full of Pacinos and De Niros. Border was Gene Hackman.

Agree with the Muesli part as well.

EDIT: The only cricketing visual that I love more than the Border square cut is the Border lightning throw at the bowler's end from short mid wicket.
