The Inaugural World Test Championship

I was thinking Test Chamionship period/version/tournament 1 stats. Then whenever the 2nd season starts, it will start again.
Cricinfo already seem to have a provision for this. Usually in the "Series" part of the scorecards they will have a hyperlink named "The Ashes 2019" or "The Wisden Trophy 2017" or "Bangladesh in New Zealand 2015/16" etc -- like our CW thread titles -- but if you look at the Tests going on right now, the series is listed as "ICC World Test Championship".

So yeah they're planning on this, it seems.

It's kinda ****ed up looking up the stats a bit. If you look up series by series averages for a player for example, it'll show the Ashes and ICC test championship as two separate series, and both have their own entries.

Williamson averages 2 in Championship Tests. Smith averages 143. :p
This makes Kane a choker. Turned it on in JAM test matches but when the real deal started it has been a non show. Root has gone in the wrong direction as well but then that has been the case for a good part of last 2 years. It will be interesting to see how Kohli goes. Can't wait to see future generations rating players based on World Test Championship records just like many currently do for WCs :)

I wonder if Burgey's theory about WC knockouts will apply here also. #OnlyTheFinalCounts
Waiting for the day when Steve Smith gets rated much below Kohli, Root or Williamson in tests by Burgey when Australia don't qualify for the championship final.

Wait how do sl have 60 points from one win?
shorter series. Of all the ridiculous problems with the points format, that's one of the dumbest.

Someone said earlier that if they had the same format in 2004, India beating Zimbabwe 2-0 in India would have been worth nearly twice as many points as Australia's Test series win in India that year

There should really be some sort of a bias in points to away wins. They are historically worth more. If Australia pulls off a 2-2 against India over there, or the same for India here, that should count. If they had it that a home win is worth 10, an away win is worth 15, regardless of series length, it might induce teams to offer up larger series lengths as well, to earn more points.
