It is more than forty years since West Indies were able to field a top class spin bowler and it seems unlikely that situation will change in the near future. In this feature Martin profiles the last man to merit the description

Thanks for this. He's turning into a bit of a forgotten man of cricket, which is strange considering how long he held the world record for and the fact that he was the best spinner the world produced in well over a generation.

Enjoyable read Fred. Amazing to thing Gibbs spent 18 years in tests, starting off in teams containing the three Ws and finishing with teams containing Richards and Lloyd. Spanned to very strong eras.

A great bowler also, who managed over 4 wickets per test. Had he played as many tests as Warne he'd have taken well over 600 wickets.
