Interesting how Mahatlane mentions 3 generations as basically there are still players from the last WC (Du Plessis, Makwetu, Mokgakane, de Klerk, Smith, Molefe, Ntini) but not sure where others are like (Coetzee, Jones, Mnyaka) & obviously 3 (Pillay, Breetzke, van Tonder gone to next level with SA Academy) and now there are new 17 year-olds (Bird, Cloete, Cronje, Moletsane, M.Khumalo, Ntanzi, Parsons)

Thought this was quite interesting. The Jansen twins from obscurity in the North West to SA u19 camp thanks to Kohli and India really liking them on the tour to SA.

Achille Cloete made SA Schools at 16 end of last year. From the current 17 year-olds he was always going to be in the mix early.

While Titans keep doing good work. It is a huge problem for CSA and SA cricket I think... it continues to show the small number of places that feed talent into the system; and also because of money stops the spread of talent to try keep the FC system competitive throughout the country. I know that provincial/ franchise teams do go up and down over periods but when money feels like its dominating it does more bad than good. SA rugby is a good example of what happens long term....

Not the titans fault they are the only well run franchise in the country. It takes good management to keep all these talented players happy.

Up to the other franchises to improve then players might consider moving to them for more playing opportunities.

So Titans have officially announced their contracted players.

MULTIPLY TITANS ANNOUNCE CONTRACTS 2018-19

The Multiply Titans have announced the eighteen players to be awarded franchise contracts for the 2018-19 season.

The contract list features a mix of the past and the future, with Theunis de Bruyn re-joining the franchise, while paceman Tshepo Moreki has signed for the first time from the WSB Cape Cobras. Rookie contracts have been awarded to Corbin Bosch and Wandile Makwetu.

Malusi Siboto has left the Multiply Titans, following the expiry of his contract, while Rowan Richards has been released from the franchise.

“It is an exciting squad,” said Multiply Titans head coach Mark Boucher.

“The squad is a good balance of youth and experience and definitely one that has the potential to defend our two trophies and possibly put us in a position to win all three competitions.”

Pretoria-born de Bruyn returns to familiar surroundings at SuperSport Park, after a two-year stint with the VKB Knights. Having started his cricketing career at the Centurion franchise, the 25-year-old will bring international experience, following his Test and T20 International debuts last year.

“Theunis is a very good player and a very dominant batsman. We saw an opening in our batting line-up and believe Theunis can definitely strengthen our batting unit. Not only is it a massive benefit to have him in our batting line-up, but his pace bowling will add another dimension,” said Boucher.

An all-format player, Moreki has featured in over 100 games at provincial and franchise level combined, garnering 150 wickets in the process. And it was during last season's four-day game against the Multiply Titans, that the 24-year-old seamer caught Boucher’s attention.

“Tshepo is a promising talent. I was really impressed with the way he bowled against us in Paarl. I love his attitude on the field, he’s fit and is hungry to play, so I am looking forward to see what he can bring with the ball,” said Boucher of the Titans' newest acquisition.

Right-arm seamer Bosch, a product of the Northerns pipeline, has been on the fringe of the team, having made his debut with the red and white ball last season. The 23-year-old paceman has made six appearances so far and was a part of the squad that won a dramatic Sunfoil Series title.

Makwetu, meanwhile, arrives at the franchise on the back of an impressive the summer behind the stumps and at the crease. The 19-year-old wicketkeeper starred at the U-19 ICC World Cup earlier this year, before going on to make his First-Class and List A debut for Northerns.

“Corbin is a player who has been on the cusp of selection, having sprung out a little bit later than others. He’s started bowling very quickly and there is a lot of potential in his batting as well, so there’s an all-rounder that we can work with,” commented Boucher.

“Wandile is an exciting prospect for the franchise. Watching him perform on the big stage in the Under-19 World Cup proves he can handle pressure situations. He has a lot of talent and we will aiming to nurture that talent this season."

The Multiply Titans enjoyed another stellar season in 2017-18, which saw the Sky Blues become the first domestic franchise to win a hat-trick of T20 titles, before clinching the four-day title. While the team enjoyed success, strong individual performances led to national call-ups for Junior Dala, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram and Lungi Ngidi.

That continued a long-standing Titans tradition in the national setup, with Markram and Ngidi joining a list of eight Standard Bank Proteas currently associated with the Centurion franchise.

Following the announcement of AB de Villiers' immediate retirement from all forms of international cricket, discussions are still ongoing regarding the finalisation of a playing arrangement for the upcoming season.

Didn't think Vandiar & Thomson would be keeping there's. Not sure it is right that Leus du Plooy won't have a franchise contract.

No real mention of Wiese as a Kolpak either. Davids on his last legs.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday announced that Wandile Makwetu will captain the Coca-Cola South Africa under-19s when the team head to England in July of this year. The tour will include two four-day Youth Test matches and three Youth One-Day Internationals from 08-29 July.

Makwetu boasts the most experience in the team with participation in two ICC U19 World Cups, a total of 28 Youth One-Day Internationals and two Youth Test matches under his belt since making his debut against Namibia in the 2016 U19 World Cup in Bangladesh.

The youngster is delighted at the opportunity to lead the team. He is determined to the best job possible and begin looking at impact players for the future.

“It’s an honour and a privilege for me to be selected as the SA U19s captain,” he commented. “It’s the one thing that I’ve dreamt about for a long time and for it to be happening now is a special feeling for me. It’s a really special group of players that I get to lead over in England, the group is mixed really nicely between guys who qualify for the next World Cup and guys who bring a lot of experience to the group.

“With one eye on the next World Cup, I this group has a few players that can go on to the next one and really put on a good display.”

The squad was picked after a national camp was held over the past weekend at the CSA Centre of Excellence in Pretoria where 27 cricketers were invited to play in front of selectors and national scouts.

Convenor of selectors, Victor Mpitsang believes they have made the right choices and picked players who will be able to tackle what will be tough English conditions. He is confident that the balance of youth and experience will serve the team’s objectives well as they begin the building blocks towards the 2020 World Cup.

“The mixture that we have going to the UK is a good one because we have the experience of some players that had gone to the World Cup and some really experienced guys who have played one or two semi-pro games,” he said. “There’s a bigger picture that we’re looking at. There’s a World Cup in 2020 and there’s a couple of players that we’re giving the opportunity to gain the experience ahead of that. There’s also another opportunity for guys to keep their names in the mix, we have a tour to India coming up early next year as well.

“So all in all, we’re very happy with the team that we’ve picked and it will compete well in the UK with those kind of conditions. As a selection panel, we wish coach Lawrence Mahatlane and his team all the best and we hope to see some good results come from there.”
