Nightwatchman , Eldred Hawken , has gone to 50. Another Limpopo Province boy like Dale Steyn, Marchant de Lange, Ethy Mbhalati. Just produce bowlers up there. Late bloomer and quite a few injuries. As a bowler he is quite sharp.

Interesting tussle with Theunis de Bruyn at the other end facing up to Maharaj and Frylinck.

Good knock from Behardien. Still dreams of playing test cricket even at his age which is what you want really. Senior players that aren't there because of just their experience. They don't want to give an inch now.

Savage is frustrating cricketer. Has the raw tools. So hopefully he can have a peak season this year. Often you think he is starting to dominate with bat or ball but then he doesn't quite grab the bull by the horns.

Behardien out, pushing at one that left him off the pitch - nice bowling from Savage (throughout this spell with 2nd new ball) - the Titans skipper is out for 68. Titans 281/7.

Looking a decent debut for Grant Roelofsen and it is no surprise. Big schoolboy run-scorer for KES, SA Schools 2 years in a row, a big u19 test match hundred v England and a double hundred last year for KZN Inland. Good technically and pretty text book in his stroke-play.

You got to realise how strong Gauteng u19 side was around those few years.

Valli, Rabada, Dudgeon born 1995
Rickelton, M.Ackerman, Roelofsen born 1996
de Zorzi, Vasconcelos, McKerr, Glover born 1997
Mulder born 1998
Makwetu born 1999

That is some production line but they never can keep all of them.

PS jinxed him as I put this out for 37. So a pair of 30s on debut opening the batting and keeping wicket against the defending champions. Not too bad. I actually hope they continue with these lads instead of bringing Vilas in for 4-dayers.

This game is really in the balance. Supposedly it is quite slow for Centurion but some steep bounce. Tough work for everyone.

Always at a disadvantage at the start of a cricket summer due to our winters but the boys could finally set upon Newlands today ahead of season starter against Knights on Monday.

We prepared these net covers for them. Installed this morning.

Looks like Mgijima (1st), Hamza (2nd), J.Malan (3rd), David Bedingham (4th & gully)

Big words from Ashwell Prince

The World Sports Betting Cape Cobras bowling attack has got what it takes to run through sides and win matches. A key to that is that the bowlers should bowl fuller lengths than last season, said the captain, Dane Piedt.

He was speaking at a press conference on Friday as the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras continued their preparations for the opening 4 Day Franchise match of their season, against the VKB Knights at PPC Newlands starting on Monday 1st October.

When probed what is required to win the competition, Ashwell Prince, the coach, said you need to take 20 wickets but he believes the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras have the arsenal to run through sides.

“(The decision to part ways with) Wayne Parnell was a bit unexpected but there are capable players stepping into that position. Rory Kleinveldt might have played less of a role, but now he will play a greater role. And there are other players who can step up, like Jason Smith, Dayyaan Galiem and Ferisco Adams.

Prince was unperturbed about the young inexperienced squad that the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras have selected for the VKB Knights. “I am excited. I think there are four to five of those players that can go on and represent South Africa. Perhaps we will see that happening within the next two to three years,” he said.

Prince added that for most of last season, this young inexperienced batting squad did the business, so not much has changed.

In the 2017/2018 season, the Cobras batsmen scored a phenomenal 13 centuries, which is quite special when one remembers that two of the three senior batsmen in the side, Andrew Puttick and Justin Ontong, played only a limited part in the four day competition.

Piedt said Dane Paterson and Kleinveldt will lead the attack and they bowl a fuller length, which will make it easier for the other bowlers to follow their example.

Prince said David Bedingham and Janneman Malan have phenomenal talent. The World Sports Betting Cape Cobras fill the vacuums in the side from the bottom upwards, but in the case of Malan, his statistics suggest that he could fill the void left by the departure of Puttick and Richard Levi in all formats of the game.

Piedt said: “Last season we created opportunities with the ball, but did not execute them. We have done the hard preparation but ultimately it is about having the right attitudes to take chances and effect the run-outs. It is a vital part of the game.”

The loss of Parnell will give Kleinveldt a new opportunity as a bowling all-rounder. He is a live wire with the bat and was sensational in the shorter formats with the ball last season, while he took 50 wickets for Northamptonshire last season.

Piedt has improved by leaps and bounds with the bat last season so the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras looks in a good position to score totals of 450 and beyond.

If Piedt’s confidence in the bowling line-up is vindicated, the Cobras will break their five-year drought in terms of four day silverware this season.
The 13-man squad of the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras is: Dane Piedt (capt), David Bedingham, Tladi Bokako, Zubayr Hamza, Rory Kleinveldt, Janneman Malan, Pieter Malan, Aviwe Mgijima, Mthiwekhaya Nabe, Dane Paterson, Jason Smith, Kyle Verreynne, Lizaad Williams

Calvin Savage - If he can stay on the park. Get backed. And produce more regular game changing performances he is an all-rounder that we can consider for SA.

@JonKent23
Limited chances, real deal genuine all rounder

@KenBorland
What a way to go to 50 by Calvin Savage, flat-bats Mothoa over mid-on for 6! Having a great game after his new-ball burst yesterday & he has stretched the Dolphins lead to a considerable 255, with 3 wickets left.
In 2014/15 he helped win a tight game for the Dolphins here with 53

@Shockerhess
Helluva innings from Calvin Savage this...belts one straight down the ground for 6 to go to 50. Dolphins lead now 255, and with Maharaj in their side, they are starting to look like favourites for the final day.

Must admit that even for a Durban boy I have hardly seen Savage play live. Looks to have all the tools though, hopefully he can stay injury free. Really feel like the Dolphins could take this. Keshav and possibly Muthusamy to have big roles to play.

Not a big squad so van Tonder, Leie, van Schalkwyk those not in

Magala, Nortje, Birch, Sipamla, Walters, Gqamane, Langa

It's going to be a long season for the Knights. 42/3 Paterson removed Mokoena, Mnyanda, Petersen - was overcast this morning in Cape Town so Piedt sent them in

Warriors are 36/0 v Lions in PE - solid start and I expect them to be in the mix this season.
