Obviously if AUS A lose they stay on 8 but because we beat India A here and we both on 9 it must be head-to-head

Round up of the game quite thorough.

Not quite a 'clinical' performance from South Africa A, who pulled through nonetheless because their seamers, led by Paterson, ensured they made good use of a deck that had assistance first up after Zondo won the toss. Once India A lost five wickets with less than a third of the innings done, it was always a question of whether they could still get to a respectable total or not. They got to one that allowed them to fight, but that was it.

South Africa A still have problems aplenty against spin, and if they do make the final, those won't go away in two days. They might have to think of a change in tactics against spinners rather than doing something technically drastic. Still, this is a good win and should give them confidence. Remarkably, it's their first win on the tour of India so far, having lost the first unofficial Test and drawn the second. The warm-up game was also drawn, while their first two one-dayers were washed out before India B and Australia A beat them.

37.4

Pandya to Frylinck, FOUR runs, steps out and launches it over the in-field for four and South Africa A have won by four wickets, with the bonus point. They will still need Australia to lose, but at least they've done what they could

If Australia A win or tie against India B, they go through. Otherwise, South Africa A are through to the finals.
Well done Saffers, to deliver when it ,mattered, after two disappointing performances.

It's a proper snatch considering how poor we've been and it's our first win on tour.

But wait....

Australia A did it ! I think they needed 19 off the final over. Jack Wildermuth !

Apparently Bhuvi may play in the third place play off (India A vs South Africa A) at Alur.
Don't really know why they are rushing him into this game; gambling on him being fit enough for the fifth test, I suppose, The move may backfire horribly.

First session update. Dupavillon with 2 sticks and Baby Malan scoring runs like he did for North West

Janneman Malan always struck me as more lose and a powerful striker which is the total opposite to his brother Pieter. You can't knock that. 78 runs before lunch.

Young teams without SA , County and SA A Limited over players.

Cobras
J.Malan (22), Galiem (21), Hamza (23), Verreynne (21), Mgijima (30), Bedingham (24), F.Adams (29), Linde (27), Piedt (28), Bokako (25), Williams (25)

Dolphins
van Wyk (39), Oakes (23), VVJ (33), Chetty (27), Makhanya (22), Ackerman (22), Savage (25), Subrayen (25), Nhlebela (24), Dupavillon (24), Cele (21)

So those missing out and available
Cobras : Khomari, J.Smith & Nabe
Dolphins : E.Bosch, Zuma, Mungroo, Shezi

4 Glenwood old boys in that Dolphins starting XI in Chetty, Subrayen, Nhlebela & Cele - one of the schools arranged with CSA to give scholarships to disadvantaged and they doing a good job supplying not only SA u19 but up through the system. Don't forget that is Andile Phehlukwayo's old school as well where he got a scholarship.

That's tea.

Janneman Malan & Bedingham as good as sealing their spots in the XI when the 4-day series starts.

Just a bit on Bedingham. Massive schoolboy talent. Wynberg Boys and same year as Jason Smith. Hamza was a year below these two at Rondebosch so they played WP u19s together.

Bedingham was lost in the system really. SA u19 test match hundred against England and got into the WP amateur team and then disappeared. Talented but I questioned the hunger which may have been harsh.

Went to Stellenbosch University and nothing great with his odd Boland chances. Then he suffered serious physical injuries in a car accident and was out for a year. Turned up for Boland and scored 100 after 100 last season and he is a stroke-maker of note. Great to watch. He basically said he didn't set too many targets and was just focusing on the present.

Bhuvi is the playing eleven for the game at Alur against South Africa A. May be, go and have a look at him, when India A bowl later in the day.

Cobras tear into Dolphins batting line-up. Schoolboy Montgomery batting with Savage who carries on his batting form. I seriously don't think limited overs cricket for SA is out of the question for Savage.

Bokako another Cobras debutant like J.Malan and Bedingham.

This is the problem with this generation of batsmen in SA in 25-30 age bracket.
This is why I'm more interested in the 19-23 year old generation. Russouw was our best hope in the 25-30 group. It is not uncommon to bring in quality younger batsmen. AB was 20, Smith 21, QDK, Markram recently. Common amongst our bowlers. The biggest issue is it looks like we may have to bring in 2 or 3 of these players after the WC giving them a big learning curve with less experience around. An in form Elgar is going to be needed more than ever. And it would be great for us if Steyn could be around to pass on his experience.

Yeah, we've spoken about it before. You want people to do well but if they aren't good enough they aren't good enough. We might have to endure a little bit more mediocrity but hopefully some of these younger lads stamp their mark this season.

Savage left stranded.

Bokako 5-for & Williams with 3. I don't think Kleinveldt will be needed much with Wayne Parnell & Dane Paterson to come back. Especially the 4-day stuff.

Galiem maybe with another batting chance but he really hasn't grabbed his opportunity here.
