The TH Cricketer Height Thread

Bolo

State Captain
At what height would the best "Under <Height> XI" and the best "Over <height> XI" be best matched? 6 foot is a natural height to pick, but with Bradman, Sobers, a host of other top batsman and an attack along the lines of Marshall/Steyn/Larwood/Murali I think the Under-6-foot XI would have a definite edge.
6' would be fine if you exclude the Bradman factor. Top 7 over 6':

B Richards
Hayden/?
Kallis
Pollock
Chappell
Miller/?
Gilchrist

It's perhaps marginally weaker with the bat than a short 11 (even if you pick a specialist over Miller) but you have more bowlers to choose from.

Vintcent van der Bijl's dad, Pieter played as an opening bat for South Africa and was very tall.
Was dubbed the tallest man in Oxford whilst a Rhodes scholar.

If Vincent was a behemoth it is no surprise if his old man was.

Got to open with Bruce Mitchell and Alan Melville and did smartly himself before the war came and was badly injured.

Going by history, if you were tasked to create the ideal batsman in a lab, you'd make him a skinnyfat midget.

Paging TH: Kyle Jamieson at 6'6'' is the tallest bowler in NZ at the moment and seems well suited to long-form cricket, but less-so short-form cricket. Blair Tickner is the lanky dude who has done better in T20s - how tall is he?

Jamieson is 6'8" (2.03m) if the news articles about him are accurate.

Trevor Franklin was a huge bastard. Couldn't hit off the square, which wasn't ideal as an opening batsman, but I was always under the impression he was 6'6 from reading various books over the years.

This is going to sound like bull**** given my recent anecdotes but I actually know Trevor Franklin through work. He's right up there in the 6'5"-6'6" range.

Having seen Franklin just last month, I concur. 6'5 would be my best guess.

I do wonder about Sachin's listed height. Can anyone confirm that? I thought he was more like 5ft 3 in person.

Shortest player in test history is Tich Cornford. 5ft tall and he hit a six in a test match.
