The top all-rounders (by rating)

AndrewB

International Vice-Captain
While working out who had been ranked #1 all-rounder in the world for the "We're not #1" draft, I noticed that the list of highest ever rated all-rounders doesn't seem to be given anywhere; so in case anyone else is interested, here it is. (The figures below are peak value for batting rating x bowling rating/1000, and date first reached: it's possible that there are some rounding errors):

Bearing in mind his highest was 433 and I've found others who hit 540+ without thinking too hard I think you're talking out of your arse.

A more interesting way to rank all rounders would be to rank them by their lower peak rating between batting and bowling. Botham will pull ahead in a big way. He is the only cricketer ever to achieve 800+ rating in each discipline.

Interesting.

There's a bias in how these are calculated in favour of more balanced allrounders due to the points being multiplied rather than added. This gives a picture of how good they were as allrounders, but not the actual value add. Without looking up their records, I doubt players like Benaud and Gregg could have peaked higher than someone like hadlee.

Yes, Botham is then comfortably top (list gives the players lower peak rating of the two, followed by peak batting & bowling ratings):

..1..........IT.Botham..811.(811,911)
..2..........JH.Kallis..742.(935,742)

Incidentally, it doesn't change much if you insist that both ratings are taken on the same date, except for the odd player like Rhodes who was hardly bowling at his peak batting date: Botham stays top on 761; Vettori drops to 13th and Flintoff takes his place in the top 10.

Since taking sums instead of products has also been suggested, here's the date-specific top 20 for that. Hadlee does indeed go up a fair bit, but is still below Benaud (though not Greig):

Just about every one near the top of the test list is a frontline bowler, but there are a number of bowlers who get near the top without being frontline batsmen. This is exaggerated on the cumulative rankings with a lot of the players near the top being the best bowlers.

The odi list is extremely surprising

Huh, never knew about this, I guess it was a fair decision to pick him in the first ATG ODI XI.

Can u do the same for ODI. IIRC there is 100 points gap between KAPIL and next. I may be wrong though
Bearing in mind his highest was 433 and I've found others who hit 540+ without thinking too hard I think you're talking out of your arse.
Asks a question, acknowledges he's just recalling events and says he may be wrong, still gets accused of talking out of his arse

Can u also post the list of test batsmen and bowlers who spent most of their career above 800 rankings points in batting or bowling department ? It would be very helpful.
