I can't see it personally - although who knows what ed smith is thinking.. Just too slowish (and lacking lions experience) especially with Anderson still around. I think he started the season injured so they are probably just being careful.

Wicket at the oval looks a lot rougher than normal. Probably trying to make it more bowler friendly following last weeks worcester game.
I have no idea but he clearly outbowled Porter in front of the England captain and we know there is a spot up for grabs. I'd rather we took a punt on either than selected Woakes ever again.

Gubbins follows up his 100 in his first game back last week with a 99 today.

Vince with a glorious 44.

A blob for Hameed - his confidence can't be too good at the moment - sincerely hope the lad comes good, and not just because he's a Lancastrian (although that helps, naturally)

The Tongue has given Essex a bit of a licking so it seems?

(Sorry - I was waiting for an occasion to say that!).

Anyone seen anything of this Ollie Pope? Seems to be getting some knowledgable folk very excited indeed

Surely too early for Pope but Clarke got a ton last week and is 78* this week in a low scoring game. Got to be close to a call up.

Woo! Ollie Pope is it?
If he does get called for England, hope he bats like Bradman and keeps like Knot. Or we are never going to hear the end of lollipop from the meme crowd here.

Got to his 100.

Nailed on test debut , in for Vince.

Malan to 3 if Root doesn't want it.

Good to see the effort that Coverton and Leach are putting into their batting these days.

Leach has been working on his batting game for a while now and slowly improving. Shaped up pretty well with England. Batting above Bess today who scored a ton for the MCC at the start of the season.
Overton was a batting allrounder with the england u19s but kind of let it slip but I think England were working hard on his batting this winter and he seems to have taken it into the season.
