West Indies tour squad to England

Craig

World Traveller
The squad I would take for the Test team (16 men):

CH Gayle, Devon Smith, WW Hinds (not sure on fitness), *BC Lara, RR Sarwan, S Chanderpaul, RL Powell/Dwayne Smith, RO Hinds, +RD Jacobs, +CS Baugh, D Mohammed, FH Edwards, M Dillon, PT Collins, C Collymore, TL Best.

Gayle, Devon Smith, Lara, Sarwan, Chanderpaul, Jacobs and I guess Edwards, barring injury are the only certainties to go.

I'm not sure on the fitness of Wavell Hinds, but if he is fit I would have him there, more so because of his versititality, if not I would probably have Dawyne Bravo in there. Devon Smith's Carib Beer Cup form has to make him a definate to go.

No offence Liam but Ganga shouldnt be allowed anywhere near the team. Cant toss up between Dwayne Smith and Ricardo Powell, although I would prefer to have Powell instead.

Cartlon Baugh fits the bill ideally as back-up to Jacobs and has a batting average of of (in FC cricket) and is a tidy enouh 'keeper. I have heard names like Wayne Phillip and Keith Hibbert as future WI 'keepers, but dont know what has happened with them.

Tino Best was the leading wicket taker (AFAIK) in the 2004 Carib Beer Cup, and apparently Collymore did ok without much luck, not sure on Pedro, just running out of names. Not sure on the fitness of Omari Banks, but have Dave Mohammed as my spinner. Banks is a better batsman IMO, but Mohammed is probably a better spinner.

Chanderpaul will go despite being dropped for the last Test.

My ODI team later.

I would never pick Dwayne Smith ever again as he's an accident waiting to happen.

I hope he plays in every match.

Can't we at least wait for the current series to end?

Why this continual obsession with threads about tours that are months away?!

Plenty of cricket to be played yet - weather permitting - with the Bangladesh tour coming up, so there'll be some jostling for position, but as it stands I'd go for the following:

Gayle, Devon Smith, Lara, Sarwan, Chanderpaul, R Hinds, Bravo, Samuels, Jacobs, C Baugh, Banks, Dillon, Edwards, Best, Collins, Lawson,

Marlon Samuels is back playing club cricket and I'd prefer him to Wavell Hinds if he's fit enough.

Dillon just shades Collymore for me (there comes a point where "unlucky" has to become "not good enough") and Lawson must tour if he proves his fitness against Bangladesh.

On the basis that there's virtually no chance of Windies contemplating playing a specialist spinner in the tests, I'd take Banks as an all-rounder (if fit), rather than Mohammed.

I'd like to have Lawson in there, not sure for who though. Also, my motto is "Just say no... to Dwayne Smith. (in the Test team at least)"

Have you ignored all my posts for the last half a year or so?? Why would I take offence? I've been saying Ganga shouldn't allowed near the Test team since before Zimbabwe.

Neither shows amazing shot selection, but I think Powell is still a superior and somewhat improved player.

The only real challenger to Baugh in my opinion is Denesh Ramdin, but he needs a few more years yet.
Tino Best was the leading wicket taker (AFAIK) in the 2004 Carib Beer Cup, and apparently Collymore did ok without much luck, not sure on Pedro, just running out of names.
Regardless of what Best did in the Carib Beer Cup, he bowled superbly where it mattered - in the Tests. He's a sure-go. Collymore IMO will find a happier place in English conditions.

Re: Collins, how can there be any doubt?? Did you not see the Test series between WI and Eng? Collins was outstanding and getting regular reverse swing. He must go.
Not sure on the fitness of Omari Banks, but have Dave Mohammed as my spinner. Banks is a better batsman IMO, but Mohammed is probably a better spinner.
Banks is fit, but probably not match-fit yet. He's not played much lately. Mohammed is clearly the superior spinner. He troubled the English batsmen greatly in the last warmup match, until Geraint Jones got after him.
Chanderpaul will go despite being dropped for the last Test.
Undoubtedly.

It's not an official thread Marc, so I don't see what the gripe is.

The fact that there's so much cricket to be played before this tour that anything could happen.

well with bangladesh touring WI i predict that gayle and hinds(provided hes fit) will end up scoring big runs and they will "supposedly" be a major thorn against england this summer.
i certainly hope that samuels is fit because IMO he has the brightest future out of all those WI batsman

There's no need to be pedantic about threads...there's no problem with looking at possible selections for a tour in a few months.

Aside from the fact there's more than enough cricket and topics already you mean?

This tour is a long way away, and both sides have series in between, so I don't see why it comes up.

It'll get to the stage where we'll soon be dicussing the 2007 World Cup whilst ignoring the cricketing issues that are currently prevalent.

I think you are finding something to moan at for the sake of it. If people want to discuss possible future selections then let them. What is the problem? You don't have to read the thread and it would help if you didn't ruin the thread through constant moans and groans........that sounded really bad didn't it

This is getting ridiculous Marc.

Sure the West Indies play Zimbabwe next, but obviously their next big tour is England & I don't see a problem if people want to debate who should be going on that tour.
