*Official* Whinge about a pitch thread

It's been a while since I've created a new thread but I thought we needed a place of community discussion (whinging & complaining) following the roll out of a super **** wicket. We can also allow the discussion of grounds in general too

While the Adelaide Oval has busily been reinventing itself as the premier ground for cricket in Australia, the MCG has been steadily producing piles of bird poo with the Gabba not far behind. There seems to be a circulation of groundskeepers between the major venues so why can't Australia hunt someone down from SA? Are there solutions?

Nope. Doing anything drastic would be doctoring the pitches. Just let them be in their natural state as they were first chanced upon. Send out explorers to search for other perfectly rectangular dirt patches that they may be able to build stadiums around.

It's ridiculous that a pitch like Melbourne gets no sanction yet as soon as a pitch even hints at taking spin then the ICC fall over themselves to label it poor.

The MCG curator of the past few years is now the Gabba curator (he was previously curator of Allan Border Field), and the current WACA curator is moving over to the MCG. Hopefully the changes might bring something different for those venues.

Curators of flat, uninteresting pitches replacing curators of flat, uninteresting pitches? No change likely.

I'm sure theres a way to make drop ins sporting wickets, they just haven't figured it out yet or don't want to.

Thankfully they put Kevin Mitchell Junior out to pasture
You know what they say, speak ill of the retired.

Annoyed this type of slanderous posting is permitted, curators deserve more respect.

It's such a strange notion to hold on to.

Surely the bean counters can realise that exciting pitches get much more attention which would there offset the potential lost time?

Mitchell Jnr did a good job most of the time.

Didn't realise that the MCG bloke was from Allan Border Field - no wonder it was a slab of concrete.

Think it is the latter, more interested in pitch lasting for 5 days no matter what.

There are a whole lot of logistics issues that arise with broadcasting when you try to sell Test Cricket as 'At most 5 days, but maybe 4 or sometimes 3 days' to TV channels, versus selling them some sort of guaranteed 5 day product. Plus day 5 of a boring test match probably draws more viewers than replays of old cricket does. And ad space can't be sold retroactively - you sell it before the cricket happens, if the cricket happens to be exciting and with more viewers you can't go back and charge a higher rate for those few days.

All this can ofcourse can be fixed by broadcasting cricket through online channels rather than through traditional TV...

Maybe things are changing.

Ashes 2017/2018: ICC set to deliver official rebuke of Boxing Day Test pitch

An top-line Australian international pitch has never been given a 'poor' rating by the world governing body but that remained a possibility on Monday. The other option that was being considered was for a less severe 'below average' rating to be dealt out by match referee Ranjan Madugalle.

In Australia we have special channels where they could do that but the idiots insist on making 3 channels clones of each other, and the other ones shopping channels. F'in idiots.
