chaminda vaas, though current players have a very good chance but man that bloke was class throughout his career. even when he got old and slow he just continued to find ways to knock sides over. johnson had the greatest peak by a mile and had a solid career bowling fast angled cutter things but he also had the very lowest lows short of match fixing

neil wagner the best of the kiwis

Vaas, but not sure he counts as "after Akram" since the majority of his career was when Akram was still playing.

Amir is obviously the best skill-wise.

Vaas had the best career, followed by Zaheer or Mitch.

Mitch had the best peaks.

If nothing unfortunate happens, Boult will probably end up with a more impressive career record than all of the above except possibly Amir.

Starc has a long way to go, Wagner is good but not great, and lol Pathan.

Vaas is a legend, but retired almost a decade ago now & as somebody else pointed out, he played most of his career while Akram played, so I'm not really considering him in the post Wasim era.

In Tests, it's pretty even between Johnson, Starc & Boult, with Johnson probably getting the nod purely based on his incredible 2013/14 Ashes performance, & then.... well Waggers not far behind, only in his case it's only really been the last 3-4 years, Honourable mention to one of my special favs, Ryan Sidebottom.

If we're combining all forms, then it's Starc, followed by Boult, since both have pretty amazing ODI records to back their Test ones.

are we being relativistic now when talking about Vaas' skill level vs Amir? Like, Vaas was so much better than his peers than Amir is, ergo he is superior?

Because that argument I can see. Otherwise, Vaas was basically a slightly better Ryan Sidebottom. Amir literally has magic in his fingers.

Also post-ban he's had like 400 catches or smth dropped off his bowling, are you really just looking at his stats and going 'meh'?

Amir is easily the best left arm quick since Akram in terms of raw skill. Sure he hasn't got the record to show it yet, and obviously going to jail for crimes against cricket counts against him, but to say he isn't even as good as Vaas if not better is just wrong.

Dishonest Amir was much better than the current version
That's what happens when Mohammed Asif is your mentor.

Never really got to see Vaas when he was tear away but he was always a really skilled bowler. I reckon Starch and Boult are the most likely to surpass him.

Dropped catches or not. 44 wickets @ 37 with a SR of 80 are the figures of a poor mans Chris Martin, especially considering 9 off his 16 post-ban Tests were in English, Australian & New Zealand conditions.

Even if you pretend 6 of those dropped catches were taken, he's still averaging 33, which is well......... Chris Martin standard.

Amir's well past the point where his poor statistics can be explained by dropped catches, bad luck etc. Been one and a half years since his comeback FFS. He's only posted good numbers in WI.
