Dominating series perfomace against tough bowling attacks

Morkel bowled really well that summer. And it was the very peak of Steyn's career. He was unplayable to everyone not named Tendulkar or Clarke at the time.
But it also had Paul Harris and Tsotsobe, so I wouldn't call the attack all time great or anything, but definitely very tough.

Yeah, calling it a great attack would be a bit of a stretch, looking back now. When SA upgraded Tsotsobe with Philander and put Morkel in his rightful place as first-change quick, they started bowling teams out for <50 and went on to win everywhere. Steyn at his peak getting the lion's share of wickets (partly because he didn't have to compete with someone on his level) was a sight to behold, though.

Warner against SA a few years back counts as "dominating", although obvious that was in a winning side with plenty of support.

He was pretty awesome but he also had some heavy downhill skiing runs that series iirc.

Lara against Australia is one of the best for so many reasons


Lara was out of form, people didnt want him as captain, Windies had lost the last home series against Aus, and he scores 3 tons in 3 vastly contrasting styles. A gritty double century, one of the greatest unbeaten 150s ever, then a very quick and exciting ton for the hell of it

+ He came into the series directly after losing 5-0 in SA and WI got humilated in the first test being bowled out for 51. Then in the second test they're 34-4. To pull off those three tons in those circumstances is just freakish.

I still remember that spell where he got Pujara (amongst others) in the 3rd Test. Burst out laughing at just how ****ing good that ball to Pujara was.

He bowled a similar ball to Harbhajan in that same spell, which missed everything, and kissed the stumps on the way to the keeper without dislodging the bails. Thankfully Bhajji saw out that spell with a huge amount of luck and added some valuable runs with Tendulkar. Even hit a six off him later.

We had a good chance to win that match when they were 7 down for 120 odd in the 2nd innings, then Kallis and Boucher rescued them.

There were some awesome series in SA around that time-frame. England's tour over there in 2009-10 (where they drew a couple of Tests 9-down) and Australia in 2011 (sadly only two matches) were also crackers. Also immensely enjoyed SA vs. Australia in 2014.

2 match series. But he made 422@211 against a 6 man bowling attack of Pollock, Ntini, Nel, Kallas, Klusener, Henderson.

He had a MOTM in the first test despite SA winning by 9 wickets.

Steve Waugh vs West Indies 1994/95 tour

He hit a 200 in the last test and averaged 107.25 in the series with the 200 and three fifties in 6 innings.

He also took 5 wickets with the ball averaging 12.5.

West Indies obviously had Walsh and Ambrose in their attack. Walsh took 20 wickets @ 21.55 in the series. Ambrose took 13 wickets @ 19.84 in the series. Winston and Kenny Benjamin were in the attack too and not shabby at all (As their performance in the series and career averages suggest).

This series by Waugh has to be up there. No one else from Aus averaged over 25.6 in the series apart from Mark Waugh who made 240@40

Not a good example really. Snow was well past his best and only played two tests against Richards that summer and England's attack ended up being composed of whoever they could dredge up who wasn't injured, including rather less illustrious names like Mike Selvey and Alan Ward. Bob Woolmer was the second change when he scored 291.

England had some good bowlers in 1976, but I'd agree with Starfighter's view that it wasn't a tough attack, especially as they weren't all at their peak - just as Bradman's 974 in 1930 was against Larwood & Tate, and Hammond's 905 in 1928-9 was against Grimmett and Ironmonger, but neither opposition as a whole had a particularly strong attack.

Walcott scored 5 hundreds in 1954-5 in a 3-0 loss to an Australian side including Lindwall, Miller, Johnston (sometimes), Johnson and Benaud.

Salim Malik scored over 500 runs @ 92 against Australia in 94-95, including matching-saving double ton and ton back to back. Attack featured McDermott, young Mcgrath, young Fleming and Warne in his prime. Was the first bat to really get on top of Warne.
