Yes. Less test nations then and no one-dayers. 1957,

Bowling O M R W
AV Bedser 3 0 6 0
Loader 4 0 11 0
Laker 14.1 7 23 6
Lock 13 1 43 4

Bowling O M R W
Trueman 18 5 46 2
Appleyard 11.4 1 27 1
Wardle 22 10 44 1
Illingworth 16 3 53 2
Close 2 0 19 0

Yorkshire v Surrey at Bradford, 13-16 Jul 1957
Excellent! I was doing some research on Trueman a while back and remembered the Surrey dominance and Yorks dominance before..

No wonder Surrey was unstoppable in that era.

... The same is true of Hadlee and Rice at Notts, supported by Eddie Hemmings, Kevin Cooper etc..
Hadlee / Rice / Hendrick / Hemmings for a couple of seasons. But IIRC Hendrick and Rice had some injury problems in those seasons, so not many games where all four bowled.

Yes, Hendrick was at Notts 1982-4, but Rice hardly bowled in 1982 and didn't bowl in 1983 (and of course Hadlee barely played for Notts that season as NZ were touring + World Cup), and Hendrick only played 3 times in 1984.

WA in the late 90's must have had a good attack as well.

Angel
Carey
Nicholson
Williams

with a battling lineup of

Campbell
Hussey
Langer
Martyn
Rogers
Gilly

etc.

I liked the Vic attack circa 91-94 of Hughes, Fleming, Reiffel and Warne with the likes of O'Donnell and Dodemaide in support.

And Julien and Moody could slot in as all rounders

Yeah WA were a force back then

On paper the Northern Districts' attack playing today is pretty useful, even if they're probably going to lose to Auckland:

Bowling O M R W ER Wd Nb
TG Southee 24 7 97 3 4.04 0 0
TA Boult 24 2 73 1 3.04 0 0
JD Baker 16 3 44 1 2.75 0 0
SC Kuggeleijn 15.2 3 36 5 2.35 0 0
MJ Santner 7 0 19 0 2.71 0 0
IS Sodhi 9 0 31 0 3.44 0 0

https://scoring.nzc.nz/livescoring/match4527/scorecard.aspx

They could have also bowled a bit of KDub and Anton Devcich if they'd wanted as well. Hmm - Watling as a specialist opener and Santner at 4

Kugglelijn with a 5-fer as 4th seamer

Let's not forget Brad Hogg, who was their first choice spinner. And the medium pace of Kade Harvey.

WA definitely had a better batting lineup than most, but that bowling attack is nothing special when compared to VIC, NSW & QLD from the same era.

They also had Goodwin for a period too (though the late 90's he was Zimbabwean based). Moody was better than Campbell with the bat too.

A young Marcus North too. Mark Atkinson was also floating around then as well.

Northern Districts has now signed up Neil Wagner and Colin De Grandhomme.

They have a ridiculous number of bowlers/allrounders on the books:

Boult
Southee
Wagner
De Grandhomme
Corey Anderson
Scott Kuggleijn
Santner
Sodhi
Williamson
Devcich

International duties nothwithstanding, how will they fit all those blokes into a side? They’re all very decent fc cricketers

Baker as well. Feel like Kuggs and him will suffer the most looking at that.

Think NZ FC league needs a salary cap
It has a de facto one by virtue of NZC funding. These are centrally contracted player movements and outside NZ FC funding except for match fees, though.

Boult and Southee play one or two max FC games before the international season starts anyway. CDG and Santner has a similar workload.

What ND do gain is Wagner as he is tests only so plays a lot of the FC season.
