Grounds for an ATG series

Victor Ian

International Coach
So there is a series to be scheduled featuring all time great line ups. Let's say it is a 6 test series. What are the grounds?

Just for a starting point i'll suggest
Waca
Lords
Chennai
MCG (cos you want 100000 to turn up)
The good one from Pakistan
And the West indies
Basically pick the six grounds that will test and display the best of the best

Lords' - tradition

MCG - scale

Barbados - pace

Capetown - bounce

Kolkata - spin

Oval - batting, and traditionally the last test

Yep. That is exactly what I was looking for and you managed to find another pace ground so the MCG got a gig.

That joint they played the India-Aus test with the mountain in the background.

Went for a combo of historic and picturesque venues, or a bit of both. Would have liked to do Adelaide, but you need to hang around until day five for it to all unfold, and most of cw doesn’t have that length of attention span.

Perhaps that one could get a gig in the All-Time-Handsome 11

Hmmm. Tri Series - ATG Handsome vs ATG Ugly vs ATMeh. Can someone remember to post a thread for this after the 70/80s 90/00s is flogged to death

I think there’s a pretty speccie ground in St Kitts isn’t there? Might be worth a mention.

Lords
Queens Park Oval
Newlands
Galle
Eden Gardens
Karachi Cricket Stadium
Basin Reserve
Melbourne Cricket Ground

Special mention to HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala as it would be pretty cool to hear the commentator say, “And it’s Dennis Lillee to open the bowling against Vijay Merchant at the Himilayan End”.

Narrowed down to...

1. Lords
2. Queens Park Oval
3. Eden Gardens
4. Newlands
5. Melbourne Cricket Ground

The equipment would be about circa 2000 before the ridiculous chunky bats came out.

Would also like to revive the 8- ball over so as to give the spinners and medium pacers like Bedser an edge. Actually any bowler relying more on skill than raw pace would most likely benefit.

Six then?

Lord's (bit of history)
Chenai (turn)
WACA (pace)
Antigua (bat)
Headingley (swing)
Cape Town (bit of scenery).

Eden Gardens is massively overrated because it has a cool name and hosted arguably the greatest test ever. Chennai and Mohali are way better choices for an Indian test ground. Generally better pitches, and have had many more memorable games.
