In fairness to Brooks he has had a good tour. If he manages to ton up he'll make a decent statement. I just wish he'd convert more of those starts. Such an elegant batsman to watch.

I've managed to catch some of the A test today against India. We've been bowling and I'm super impressed with our seamers so far, it's so exciting to have a bunch of capable options now after so long in the doldrums.

Oshane Thomas was the fastest of them, bowling at seriously high pace and extracting a lot of bounce. He bounced out one batsman and had another caught behind when he was late coming forward. Unfortunately he's still a bit wayward and his pace was down in his second spell. Still, he needs a lot of these A team matches and a bunch of specialised attention because he is a serious talent.

Sherman Lewis was very decent also, swinging and seaming the ball at brisk pace (would guess at 82-85mph mostly). He looks a more complete bowler than Thomas in that he is accurate and looks like he has the basics covered.

Romario Shepard was excellent with the enwish ball, bowling nippy outswingers with occasional inward seam movement. I reckon he was also around 80 - 85mph. He could part on a yard more with more work and looks a decent prospect also.

Of course Chemar Holder took wickets in the first test also. I didn't see him bowl so can;t comment but he was excellent in the Under 19 World Cup and has taken wickets at every level so far.

Good stuff, things are looking up in the seam department at least.

I actually saw a little bit of Chemar Holder when he was playing for Port Adelaide here in grade cricket. Was getting some nice outswing with the new ball, and sent down a couple of sharp bouncers too. Not sure what pace he was bowling, but Port have a bloke called Jace O'Hara who is known to be pretty sharp in his own right, and Holder looked a touch quicker from memory.

Cheers, that's great to hear. I think when last measured he was between 82 and 87mph with some awkward bounce. It's especially good to hear he was getting some outswing. Watching a few of his wickets earlier on in the tour he was getting people caught behind and in the slips quite a lot. Good signs.

Unfortunately that is precisely what we have done. I'd question the fitness of some in the A team. The bowlers tend to run out of puff in the 2nd innings.

Also, serious props to the B team that have made the final of the Canada T20 competition when playing against a whole bunch of T20 stars. It's seriously impressive. 19 year old Guyanese Rutherford hitting a hundred against Southee and Russel and others to qualify is an amazing achievement. The like s of Justin Greaves, Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran have also been very impressive.

He was a late starter and didn't make his T & T FC debut until aged 23/24 as far as I remember. He has always been ludicrously strong but he needed teaching the bowling basics like seam position etc and that took a while. He's definitely not a natural, he has had to work extremely hard to get to where he is today.

It annoys me in a way, because he has achieved more than Jerome Taylor, who was basically born to bowl fast, had all the tools but was lazy and never improved. If you combined Jerome Taylors skills with Gabriel's work ethic it would have been quite something.

The no balls in his case are definitely not for the want of trying to correct them. He works as hard as anyone in cricket.

Unfortunately no-one is really scoring huge runs. A number of young players have looked promising and scored some decent runs but no-one has really dominated to force their way in. The last two to do that were Ambris and Blackwood. Keep an eye on Keacy Carty I think he will be the next one to pile on runs.

Just thought I would resurrect this with a few musings from the last month or so:

CPL - Best thing I've seen so far is Oshane Thomas bowling ridiculously quickly. He has beaten everyone for pace. In the last 2 years his wickets include Chris Gayle, AB De Villiers, David Warner and Evin Lewis. He definitely has something about him but there are questions to be answered on his ability to bowl in FC cricket as he appears to get tired quickly and he went at 7 RPO on the recent tour of England. Shimron Hetmeyer has also been in beast mode playing some remarkable shots which has been good to see. His confidence is clearly up.

Under 19 Tournament - Disappointing overall. The pitches have been very spin friendly meaning the top 10 bowlers in the 3 day tournament were all spinners. There were some exciting fast bowlers on display but they didn't get a lot of overs. Apart from a couple of batsman the standard of batting was poor, which is a worry. Certainly compared to last years Under 19's the batting was substandard. Hard to tell on some of those pitches though.

Very promising signs that the upcoming domestic 50 over competition is going to be extremely high quality. All of the T & T stars are back and in the squad, making for a very strong domestic lineup:

Lendl Sim*mons, Evin Lewis, Dar*ren Bra*vo, De*nesh Ramdin (capt), Ja*son Mo*hammed, Dwayne Bra*vo (v-capt), Ke*iron Pol*lard, Sunil Nar*ine, Rayad Em*rit, Im*ran Khan, Khary Pierre, Ravi Ram*paul, Odean Smith.

It looks like Darren Bravo might be on the way back into contention.

Agreed. Shannon Gabriel will be in India I think hence he's not in the squad. Odean Smith is a promising quick but a little green.

Definitely agreed, he's a man for a crisis bit otherwise scored way too slowly.

Barbados haven't announced it yet but it will be massively weakened due to our tour of India.
