Updated test batting averages since 2018

Kraigg = 21.75 (38 innings)
Campbell = 23.55 (21 innings)
Bravo = 12.18 (12 innings)
Brooks = 27.57 (14 innings)
Chase = 22.97 (36 innings)
Blackwood = 44.50 (10 innings)
Holder = 36.34 (28 innings)
Alzarri = 18.80 (10 innings)

There is simply no doubt that Kraigg and Chase need to go, they have had so many chances yet are failing miserably. Campbell is also not good enough but looking at those stats you can't drop him and not Kraigg.

Separately, Hety averages 31, he is hard done by having to watch Chase get all these matches!

Kraigg Brathwaite is giving me serious Rajendra Chandrika vibes.
He’s a specialist batsman; act like one, play like one.

Hetmyer might be a good replacement opener, he’s opened for us in FC cricket as recently as earlier this year.

somehow I feel that Chase is getting the Mahmudullah treatment(Bangladesh persisted with him when he was just in the team to make up numbers).

Good points, Kraigg just looks so meek. One Southee outswinger just outside off stump and that is pretty much that.

If Chase is the new Mahmudullah them let's bat him at 8 and be done with it. Personally I'd just drop him.

So we can now update this as Campbell and Chase have batted.

Chase is shot. Time for a rest. Campbell might have saved himself. Personally I think Kraigg needs a rest also but I don't know if the selectors have the nerve to do that.

Ha! I am honestly beyond caring now. All that matters is that they stop rewarding failure. They need to make a statement in their next squad selection.

how much footage is there of windies fc batsmen? joshua da silva really stands out because unlike the others he combines technique with some semblence of shot selection. i really like him, dowrich can eff off.

not sure going back to hetmyer yeeting it is what is needed. i can get behind blackwood moving to #4 and bringing in moseley, pooran and mayers.

bravo and brathwaite look shot tbh. brooks isn't having fun and is hugely creasebound but he's got bottle so he can probably stay.

my only useful advice is stack the engine room and meme for your lives. a 6-9 of mayers/holder/da silva/cornwall sounds fun. i haven't seen shepherd bowl but if he's a proper prospect then stoke that flame.

chemar holder looks like a superstar in the making.

Mayers is even more yeetish as a bat than Hetmyer. Beamer likes plugging him but he's basically Jason Holder backup only IMO; the bloke will never be a Test bat and his bowling shouldn't be needed when Holder is there. Gut feel says he has greater aspirations to be picked up as the token West Indian allrounder in global T20 tournaments than he does being a Test #6.

Romario Shepherd is decent FC all-rounder for us in the domestic competition. He makes useful runs down the lower order...bowls a heavy ball.

When your batting is as bad as ours I would accept Jason Holders back up in the lower middle order ..

If he takes wickets in the next FC competition it will be interesting. He's coming along nicely.

Looks like he picked up some batting form ahead of the Domestic season. Good signs. Will be keenly monitoring his bowling tho...
Me too. He does move the ball and is accurate. Not particularly quick but he would be a keep it tight and nip it around bowler.

So Pooran again looked a Million dollars at the crease yesterday. In my view we would be mad not to select him against Bangladesh. He and Hety destroy spin bowling.

So SSC, what is your Test Squad for Bangladesh? They leave the Caribbean on January 7th so I assume it will be announced soon. I don't know how many will opt out, but given that Roach and Dowrich left New Zealand I am counting them out. So my squad is:

Shayne Mosely
John Campbell
Shamarh Brooks (vc)
Darren Bravo
Nicholas Pooran
Shimron Hetmeyer
Jermaine Blackwood
Joshua Da Silva (wk)
Jason Holder (c)
Rakheem Cornwall
Veerasammy Permaul
Alzarri Joseph
Chemar Holder
Shannon Gabriel
Keemo Paul

Reserves:

Romario Shepherd
Nkrumah Bonner
Preston McSween
Ashmead Nedd
Kyle Mayers

Rationale:

Pooran and Hety are two of the best players of spin in the Caribbean. They could cause serious damage to the Bangladeshi spinners if it works. Pooran obviously doesn't have much FC experience but he looked class against NZ A and the time has come for us to think outside the box.

Kraigg and Chase could not possibly deserve a drop more, they have been dreadful for 3 years! So Mosely comes in as the next option and Campbell get a stay of execution after that fighting innings.

Permaul really deserves that second spinner slot, he has taken so many wickets and watching him he has definitely improved his flight and variations, whereas Warrican is always flat and just bowls the same ball over and over again. Ashmead Nedd gets the developing player slot in the reserves, like Jayden Seales did in NZ.

Our selectors have no imagination at all so I expect they will not pick Pooran and retain Chase and Kraigg, but lets see!

Surely its fair enough not to pick Pooran if he refuses to play any FC matches
He played the A matches. We have now got to the point where beggars can't be choosers. If they continue to pick Kraigg and Chase and co then they are going to lose the few supporters they have left. It is time to try something new and we don't have many options.
