Shakib Al Hasan reached the double of 3,000 test runs and 200 test wickets in his 54th test, one quicker than Botham, making him the fastest player to that double.

Also the first Bangladesh player to reach 200 test wickets.

How about a club champion style list? You know, where you get points for each wicket and run, points for 5wi and 10wm and 50s and ?S and catches rumours etc. Then see who has best average.

Those symbols were 100s before my phone did something funky with it. Continuing the funk my phone preferred rumours to run outs. Nothing to get. Just a suggestion of another tally to compare all players, batsmen and bowlers together.

You are mighty quick there. Wow. Look how far ahead Kallis is as the most contributing player in recent history.

How about the average per test (minimum 40 tests)? I'm curious who has beaten the Don.

What would happen if you used something closer to the overall batting average (30.28) as the value for a dismissal?

20650 : JM Anderson
20290 : IT Botham
20188 : N Kapil Dev

Bradman is 5th in the list. Number of Tests played in brackets:

160.34 ( 93): GS Sobers
151.17 ( 53): Shakib Al Hasan
149.61 (102): IT Botham
148.61 ( 64): R Ashwin
147.62 ( 52): DG Bradman
145.63 ( 86): Sir RJ Hadlee
144.78 ( 41): TL Goddard
144.69 ( 96): AC Gilchrist
140.67 ( 58): AW Greig
140.61 (133): M Muralitharan
139.33 (166): JH Kallis
136.92 ( 62): RB Simpson

132.17 ( 64): SPD Smith
131.90 ( 88): Imran Khan
131.30 ( 66): BJ Haddin
130.69 ( 85): WR Hammond

You get quite an interesting list if you reduce the minimum to 10 Tests:

167.39 ( 18): GA Lohmann
160.34 ( 93): GS Sobers
157.85 ( 27): SF Barnes
151.76 ( 25): GA Faulkner
151.17 ( 53): Shakib Al Hasan
149.61 (102): IT Botham
149.42 ( 24): JM Gregory
148.61 ( 64): R Ashwin
147.62 ( 52): DG Bradman
147.24 ( 17): CTB Turner
146.54 ( 39): RA Jadeja
145.63 ( 86): Sir RJ Hadlee
145.50 ( 14): T Richardson

141.00 ( 37): CV Grimmett

And with no restrictions at all:

185.00 ( 1): LJ Johnson
184.86 ( 7): HV Hordern

175.00 ( 2): LJ Nash
167.39 ( 18): GA Lohmann
167.00 ( 2): F Martin
166.00 ( 1): MF Malone
166.00 ( 1): IW Callen
165.60 ( 5): AE Trott
165.00 ( 1): JP Faulkner
163.00 ( 1): RE Redmond
162.60 ( 5): AS Kennedy
160.86 ( 7): MJ Procter
160.34 ( 93): GS Sobers
160.00 ( 1): SA Banerjee
158.00 ( 1): KJ O'Brien

Using 30 points as the value for a catch/wicket, Bradman drops out of the top 20 altogether:

Then caught and bowled would be worth 30, but credit for the other catches and stumpings should be shared between the bowler and the other player involved.

This doesn't work. Batting points should be equal to bowling + fielding. The 20 split was probably about right, although I think bowling dismissals should count for more than fielding.

Good spot - due to a bug in my code both the Imran Khans were being counted as one player. I've added him in (though he's not especially high in the lists - fewer runs per game than you might think and not very many catches).

Great work AndrewB. It will be worth a revisit after the Indian tour to see if we can push the mighty Ashwin below Bradman, where he belongs.

There are a number of scoring methods I found with differing numbers for runs, sometimes a bonus for milestones, breaking up bowled (no help - lbw, bowled, c&b) and bowled with help (points split between bowler and fielder) - runouts (split again).

Might be worth specifying what conditions you can query on, and then we can figure out what the correct points for all things should be. You could make a thread like those others where you spend the rest of your life fine tuning them until you achieve the impossible and make everyone happy.

I'll try and find some club championship links to get a better idea of reasonable points. It was hard as there was so much mycricket something or other pollution.

I don't have access to numbers of run outs, or to whether a bowler's wickets are with/without help. For each innings I just have the player's runs, bowling figures (overs, runs, wickets), number of catches and number of stumpings.
